black screen

Hi, I have a A1200 with 4gb Internal FLash Drive and 4gb External Flash Drive, Internal is a Transcend 4gb Flash Card that sits in the adapter pictured, the external is a 4GB Sandisk II that sits in the PCMIA Adapter, this Amiga A1200 has been pre configured to use both devices in tandem, the A1200 boots quickly and automatically into Classic Windows via the internal flash drive. omes with a Video Convertor board to convert the Amiga video signal to work on your LCD / Plasma display which has a standard Dsub VGA input which is basically all LCD and Plasma's

^^ that was copied from Ebay when I bought it ^^

I then bought this

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1100

so I could play the WHDLoad games that I would put onto the hd. my problem is that all I get now is a black screen, I can access the converter board's menu on screen, but no WB any ideas?

Your first port of call should be to contact Amigakit (raise a support ticket)

However normally this is one of 3 problems:

1) PSU not good enough to power everything
2) Poor connection between ACA card and A1200 (clean the contacts with IPA)
3) Timing issues (contact Amigakit they offer this service and at the same time consider having the capacitors replaced)

One final thing, sometimes the ACA cards do not make enough contact when you fully push them onto the expansion slot, you may need to withdraw it from the connector slightly (0.5mm-1mm)

Good luck.

i think he was joking about the typo: Classic Windows vs. Classic WB.
for now i think, you should follow fitzsteve instructions. if this wont help, contact
Amigakit and talk about your options (timing fix and capacitor exchange).

He probably has one of the arcade vga converters sold on ebay adapted to run off the rgb. Probably it also takes its power from the amiga, this could contribute to the issue if the psu is the lighter type.

Well if the original drive works on it, then it will be a displaced pin, causing no boot. Maybe its not seeing HDD and he is not waiting the 30 to 50 secs for ks screen to appear.

Almost correct - has its own power supply but it is a lighter power supply on the Amiga

@FOL the gbs boards have an OSD for adjusting their settings, that's what the OP is talking about.

I see. Doesn't help with finding issue, .
Need to connect to a normal TV connection, like Scart / Composite.
We need to see stuff instant, so we know what its actually doing, i.e. posting etc etc.

First thing to do would be to put the original drive back in and see if it works.

Well I certainly would not have done that. If it is a displaced pin and something is going to the wrong place, 5 mins is enough time to do alot of damage.

Did you check HDD install? is it displaced? do you have connected the right way around?

FOL, I think you have your wires crossed as he said the system was working until he introduced the ACA1220 so I don't think his CF adapter is the problem, more likely connection, power or timing issues.

(Unless you know something we don't i.e from him contacting Amigakit directly?)

Ofcourse you are correct, miss read the link as HDD. Not sure how.
It will be timing fixes needed then unless the card was installed at an angle and some of the pins are bent.

card was put in solidly and correctly, no bent pins (I checked for that) and straight, I tried fitzsteves suggestions also about cleaning contacts and slipping the card back about 1mm, no joy.

I don't have a composite lead just the converter, but have ordered one from AmigaKit.

Christopher from AmigaKit said my description of my setup was confusing and I had too much non-stock kit attached

He thought I had the pcmcia inserted while booting - did anyone else think that?
I thought it was clear it was for transferring programmes, or maybe I'm just living up to my username again

I dont know a thing about timings (and I mean NOT A THING)

Last edited by nice but stupid; 01 May 2014 at 00:24. Reason: timing bit

Type 'A1200 timing fixes' into Google ;-)

Amigakit will be able to help you with the timing fixes as already suggested.

Christopher did, . I misunderstood the link in first post. After steve pointed that out, I understood that you were talking about an ACA card.
