Alien Storm has some resembling ones too. Also some Space Gun enemies have some similarities as well.

Damn; what the deal with "Creature"

Lets say I start the game and then choose the Ship stage. I then fly through space to the next passage (using arrow keys for direction). Once inside the arrow keys no longer work; can't shoot either.

Only thing does anything is pressing the mouse button; which changes direction

A honorific mention goes to Hired Guns for it's Aliens references:

The Sentry Guns
"Game over, man, game over!" when a character is close to dying
The overall plot, having to destroy the creatures by blowing up a terraforming station / Reactor, resulting in massive thermonuclear explosion
The sound of certain weapons are lifted straight from the Pulse Rifle sounds
