Top 100 Games of All-Time (IGN's take anyway)
An interesting run through of IGNs top 100 games of all time.

Big list.
The games list seems skewed mostly to the post-amiga era of 3d graphics. Too many sequels in there. Wonder how old the reviewers are? I recognised Syndicate (never played but seen) and Archon (a great game) which were also on the amiga. |

I've often wondered how and where they get the the info on what people think are the top 100, top 10, etc. games of all time are ?? As I can safely say I disagree with IGN's list

So is there any Amiga games in there? |

I agree with most of those as being great games, but I don't agree with all of them. For instance, is Mafia that good on PC? On Xbox it sucked so bad I returned it (I don't do that much, the last game I returned after playing was Krusty's Super Funhouse for the Genesis/MD).

Mafia is an excellent PC game with a steady pace punctuated by exciting bursts of action. It also has a neat story and believable voice acting.

There are indeed a few amiga games on there, but none exclusively to the amiga. I think it's a decent enough list, it'll never be spot on because we all have such varied taste (and a taste skewed towards amiga since this is an amiga board).
I agree with quite a lot of the games on the list, maybe not in the right order for my liking but it was never gonna be I disagree with the comment about too many sequels.. if a sequel is a worthy game it doesn't really matter what came before it. Especially since some of the sequels in the list are 3D updates of older 2D games. It good to get a good debate going though eh |

I was pleasantly surprised to find Fallout, Thief 2, Ultima Underworld and System Shock 2 in the list. Not only that, but Deus Ex is rated higher than Half Life, which is unusual (and correct). Normally Half Life is put in the top 10 per default, but not this time!
These facts alone do not make a good list however, it contains one contradiction after the other. They put Dune 2 in the list and higher than Red Alert or Age Of Empires 2 because it "established the model that nearly all RTS games have followed ever since". Okay, I can respect that. But why the hell is Civilization 2 in the top 10, and not Civ 1? Populous? Sim City 1? Mortal Kombat even? One thing that made me laugh out loud was that StarCraft is high up in the list while Diablo/Diablo 2, or better yet Warcraft 2, are completely missing. |

killergorilla, i'd agree with you regarding sequels. As some of my favourite games are sequels, such as:
Speedball 2 Xenon 2 Supercars 2 Populous 2 Lemmings 2 Elvira 2: The Jaws of Cerberus Jet Set Willy 2 Kick Off 2 |

Mafia was great on the PC, great atmosphere and nice little touches.
I remember this one bit where you had to steal a race car and drive to your mechanic in the dead of night and return it by a certain time, on the way to the mechanic you crossed a bridge where a crowd had gathered around a jumper on the bridge and on the way back he was gone but the crowd was still there. |

@killergorilla
Some of my favourites are sequels too (Eye of the Beholder II, Speedball 2) - what I meant by it is that it lessens the variety of games in the list. It seemed like the reviewers had a narrow selection criteria! They couldn't think of any others so they just put up "Game 1", "Game 2", "Game 3"... And i agree with gimbal that Civ 2 is in top 10 yet the great Civilization is not even in the top 100! |

Mafia is awesome, I thought it was abit to hard at first but after a day or so I was fine. I would put it up as one of the best games of all time without a doubt. I dont agree with much of the list and the ones I do agree with seem to be much lower than I would have thought. Great to see Fallout geting an mention.

A pretty good 100 list from if you’ve played Nintendo/NES and PC all your life. The rest of the games feel like they’ve been thrown in if they happened to be the one killer app for that platform.
For example they mention galga.. and then a couple of places higher is bionic commando.. on the NES?! It’s a lacking conversion of a good arcade game. The reason for choosing Contra was even more silly : "Though released first in arcades, it was the NES conversion of Contra that most of us remember with fondness" On the bright side I think the PC nominations where pretty much spot on.
