C64 on Philips CM8833 Monitor [help]

Hi guys,

ive recently bought a philips monitor cm8833, both of my A1200 and Spectrum 128k +2 works flawlessly via scart, but when i connect it to my C64 the picture of the basic screen is oversaturated, its not stable.

Ive tried also with a composite cable and a luma cable, but no good
Does anyone know a specific cable to connect the C64 on this monitor? or schematics to do one that works?

thanks in advance...

A regular composite cable will work. You must have the front panel input switch in the right position.

Did you try adjusting the pots on the front to get a better picture?

its not so easy, all owners of this monitor have problems with the commodore 64 specifically

it would be great to have someone with the same monitor, giving tips what he did to connect it sucessfully

I never did anything special with a 8833 and a c64. Are you talking about all 8833 owners, or all past owners of this particular unit?

I don't think I have any of those left, so I can't test for you. :-/

all the owners of this monitor in general, if you do a search you can see its a common thing, all people have problems on connecting a c64 to it.

Curious. Hopefully someone here has some more recent experience. One good starting point would be to take the 1084p and 8833 schematics side by side and compare the components on the cvbs signal path.

Hi,

I have this Monitor in use for my C64 as well as Amiga at the same time, for many years.
Never had an issue with the display.
I have connected the Amiga via SCART (which also includes the 2x audio pins), and the C64 to the 2x chinch inputs for composite video & audio.

The big advantage in my opinion is that this monitor has a switch (button) to change between inputs on the front, so I can easily use it for both machines.
The only disadvantage I can think of is that it does not have a chroma/luma input for video, but just one composite input instead. However, I did not notice any big picture quality difference compared to a 1084 monitor connected with chroma/luma.

One thing I can think of:
Do you have the C64 and Amiga running at the same time ? There might be some issue in this case. I think I remember I also experienced this long long time ago, and solved it with another SCART cable.
I can imagine it is some grounding issue ?
However, I almost never have both running at the same time, anyway.

Nevertheless, I alsways need to turn colour saturation a bit down for C64 usage, and a bit up for Amiga usage, to have a good and not over saturated picture. Maybe this is what you mean ? I think it cannot be solved without adding some resistors to the cable or something.
