Extracting WHDLoad .LHA archives (Mounted HD or Directory)
Hi,
I've read that extracting the WHDLoad .lha files on PC can cause issues when playing via via Amiga because of filenames/comments etc. However does this also count for mounted PC directories within WinUAE? For example can I mount a directory has a HD and then extract them via emulated environment Which leads me onto next question, what is best way to extract all the .lha files in batch mode on Amiga? TIA |

Yes, i's safe to unpack all archives in WinUAE. Enable JIT and it's very fast. I suggest to use a file manager like DirOpus 4 to unpack them.

Thanks but is it ok to do it from a directory mounted as a drive or does it need to be on a virtual hd file or CF card etc? ie something Windows can not access?

It doesn't matter, use whatever you want. Unless you don't do any unpacking/copying stuff directly with Windows.

As far as i know you can extract the majority of them on a pc, there is only a small amount of games that need to be extracted on a real amiga.
Have a look at Turrans updated whdload packs- ftp://grandis.nu/Commodore_Amiga/WHDLoad_Packs/ Notice he has a separate folder there for the few games that need to be extracted on a real amiga- ftp://grandis.nu/Commodore_Amiga/WHD...UnpackOnAmiga/ More info here- http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ghlight=turran Quote- ""There is also a "Games_WHDLoad_UnpackOnAmiga" folder on the FTP. It contains a very few games which can not be extracted on PC due to filenames (CON etc). You'll have to download the archives to your Amiga and extract them there directly."" Apart from these few games i am pretty sure you can extract the rest on your pc, i did this and haven't had any issues yet, plus it's much quicker to do it on a pc! |
