Use joystick cable for mouse?

Hi,

the cable of my mouse is broken (don't let the kids alone with scissors *g*).

How difficult is it to use the working cable of a (broken) joystick?

Looks like the 9 pins are just put on the 9 slots or?

well you can use any cable (just not too long).
the problem is that joystick cables might lack few wires, as they need only 4+1+1 wires, and mice need all 9 (or was it 8?)

Amiga can use all nine wires on a 3-button mouse.

8 for two button-equipped.

You could just shorten the mouse cable and solder the differently colored wires to the corresponding pin on the underside of the mouse circuit board, if enough is left of the cable

Many joystick cables have all 9 wires inside, but wire colors might not match the mouse cable's.

Amigakit has brand new Amiga mice pretty cheap, mine works well enough.

I also have two cheap optical mice connected to two other Amigas via a PS/2 to Amiga adapter and a USB to PS/2 adapter (comes with the mouse). Microsoft Wheelmouse Optical are about 9 EUR and excellent, the adapter costs more but you can get that from Amigakit too. I didn't regret buying them, they're a lot better than ball mice for anything on Amiga, really.
