Floppy disk Making ADF file from Amiga Disk on a PC - Possible?

Greetings to everyone!

I just have this doubt...

I have all my Amiga disks, but my Amiga doesn't work anymore.

I'd like to transform all these Amiga disks into ADF files.

Is there any way to do this without an actual Amiga?

I have a PC with floppy drive, perhaps there is a program with which I can do this?

Thank you,

PK

You can use a program called adfRead, available on the WinUAE website.

It requires a PC with two floppy drives, and can only successfully dump Amiga DOS formatted disks - which means that, for the most part, it won't read game disks.

From the readme:

Requirements
------------

- Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista
- PC mainboard must have hardware support for 2 floppy drives
Unfortunately most modern PC mainboards don't have B: drive motor
and select signals connected. MB is compatible if you can configure
both A: and B: drives in BIOS. (usually..)
- 2 non-USB floppy drives installed on the same cable
- Regular format Amiga disks without any copy-protection
- A normal PC-formatted 1.44M floppy

also there's a better program that only needs 1 disk drive instead 2
it can make any kind of image..even non dos disks and protected disks

but only with the registered version of the program and making a special cable

A more expensive, but elegant Way would be the Catweasel MK-IV Floppy Controller made by Individual Computers.

Here are some Details:
http://amiga.think42.com/news/news99_e.htm
http://www.nishtek.com/cw.html

But if you only want to Dump a few Amiga-Disks, this thing might be a bit 'Overkill'.
I just wanted to mention it, as it is another Way to read your Amiga-Disks on a PC.

The 'best' Solution:
Just try to get an real Amiga again (A1200 or A600), and use a PCMCIA/CompactFlash-Adapter or a Network-Card
to Transfer your Images to the PC.

I mean, if you had an Amiga once, you just want to live without one anymore
Only Amiga makes it possible.

AFAIK Catweasel MK-IV can't dump copy protected floppy disks. It has some kind of library for the disk format. So Disk2FDI would be the better solution in my mind.

Or do you know something else?

Kind regards

I thought the CatWeasel controller could dump most disks, even copy protected ones. I will check this out.

The cheapest option that does work is to just buy an A500 (less than £10 on ebay) and connect it up to the PC via a null modem cable and use a copy of Amiga Explorer from Cloanto.

@Harrison & mr_0rga5m:
I Agree with you in getting an real Amiga. An A500 would probably be the cheapest Way.
But if you would buy an Amiga anyway, why not the 'better'/newer Models?
An unexpanded A1200 isn't that much more Expensive, but offers much more Possibilities
and some Expansions are cheaper, than those for the A500.

I've never used a Nullmodem Cable to Dump my Disks, since I have an A1200 with a PCMCIA Network-Card.
But from what I've read, it's rather slow.

@Dic_Ray:
I don't know if the Catweasel can Dump All (if any) Copyprotected Disks. - I don't think so.
He didn't mention he wanted to Dump Copyprotected Originals.

If you want to do that you have to get an A1200 (RAM-Expanded in this Case) anyway,
and make SPS-Images from these Disks. (But that's another Story)
I don't know, if Disk2FDI can Dump ALL Copyprotected Disks. - SPS can (well, almost ALL - another Story)

@ALL
He asked for Ways to do this without actually having an Amiga, and the Catweasel can do that.

I just wanted to stay on the Topic as close as possible.

Dumping disks using Null Modem Cable and Amiga Explorer is pretty slow but it's not slow enough to be annoying I think... unless you're looking to transfer 10 disks in one sitting.

Anyway it's something you can leave running while doing the dishes or cleaning up all the empty pizza boxes and coke bottles...and you only have to do it once.

The Catweasel can do so many cool things - if you only want to transfer some disks I think it's overkill.
