I may be wrong but... AEB is a forum about "retro-computing" (even if the Amiga is still "present" for most of us here ).

By default it means : OLD.

So every information may be valuable even in 10, 20, 50 years.
If the information is not valuable, moderators moderate

When I subscribed in EAB, after being for many years out of the scene, you can't imagine how glad I was to be able to read threads that were damn old (where is the smiley with a spider's web on the face ). That some of these threads were OT was not an issue for me as they allowed me to have a better understanding of some of the comments that were on non-OT threads.

Furthermore, EAB has the chance to have good moderators. So except if there are videos, pictures, archives, etc. that are eating the storage place, threads are only made of simple texts and therefore "pruning threads" seems to me to be not adequate. Or only in rare but defined cases...

You're not wrong (except that it is EAB, not AEB ) However the origin of the off-topic forums was that they contained a whole lot of noise, basically an outlet for people on this forum to just goof off together - little did we know that we turned out to be really limitless beasts. It used to be so bad that people really did not want to see the crap that went on in there. Hence the OT forums are special. They're pruned, the posts you make there do not count to your total and their content does not end up in today's posts.

That all has changed for the better; the OT forums are now very respectable, whomever still thinks that they're to be avoided should let go of the past. The changes RCK did are excellent IMO.
