Help with amiga 1200 cdrom

As the title suggests I could use help with the amiga cd rom

Mine was in a caddy that plugged into the left side of my 1200. It's dead so my question is, could I save the caddy and just replace with a cheap ide pc drive and use that for my amiga to play my amiga cd games?

Any info would be much appreciated

Cheers

Yes, as long as it is the CD-ROM drive within the caddy which has failed and not some component part of the caddy (PSU, cable, etc.), then any old PC IDE CD-ROM drive should work as a substitute unit with your A1200.

Make sure to jumper the replacement unit (wrt Master/Slave setting) in the same configuration as the old drive.

Nice one thanks :-) well my old drive wouldn't eject even though it was making contact with the button.

It lit up and the amiga recognised it to install the drivers so I'm guessing all is well power wise.

I have some old xp towers knocking around so I'll have a go and see what I can do.
