What tells Amiga which app a doc is associated with?
I have a load of old song files. They have a tape cassette icon that opens successfully Music-X. But I don't remember ever owning Music-X. I might have just forgotten. I thought I only used Dr T's KCS.
Does this behavior mean they definitely were saved by me 25 years ago in Music-X, or could this association have somehow got changed? I restored the entire hard disk backup including these song files and system settings from my original backup disks, and haven't modified anything. |

Might be a prefs/env-archive type prefs file or the default tool if it's a project .info file.

On a case-by-case scenario, icon info should contain the Tool the project will open with.
But you can also make all files of a certain datatype be opened with a certain application by using deficons. |

What's the best way to read a .info file to determine what app is set within it?

As for your original question, you definitely are confused, if the file's default tool is MusicX, you saved them in MusicX. Also pretty sure MusicX and KCS aren't compatible anyway. |

If I recall correctly, shortcuts for contextual actions always use the right Amiga key so you were right.

Correct. Looks like I've forgotten some things in 25 years!

Don't forget that because the default tool is stored in the .info file, copying icons onto your files means that they inherit the default tool settings of wherever they were copied from. In this way it's easy to end up with a file that looks like it was created in a certain package without ever having used that package.

I restored the original files and icons all from my 25 year old backup, so Music X must be what I used.
