Use ACA620 in a 500+?
Do you think it could be possible to use the ACA620 in a 500+ if a suitable CPU adapter was made for it?
I think the 500+ is generally very similar to the 600 in terms of having more or less the same custom chips. Only main difference is the IDE controller and PCMCIA. The ACA620 is a very nice accelerator and it would be cool to be able to use it in a 500+ as well. |

You'd never be able close the lid but sure. Much better off buying an ACA500

ACA500 doesn't have enough memory and is just a 000 CPU, so you'd need to upgrade it with an ACA1220 to have comparable performance to the ACA620. Then it becomes quite a lot more expensive than the 620, which only costs slightly more than the ACA500 in itself. Also, I prefer to keep everything inside the 500 chassis. Ok, you might be missing the IDE interface(s) and the ACA620 might not work with the Gayle-style IDE controllers that exist for the 500? |
