Soo, installed 10 LTSC, set everything up after much wailing and grinding of teeth, what happens next you ask ?
WU keeps throwing errors and the blasted thing gets stuck in a loop unable to log in.....

The clown who designed this turd of an OS deserves to be dipped in lukewarm poo..

The trouble free days of rock solid 7 is over, ran my last install for 4 years without a single problem...
I've a constant fear of something screwing up now, it's just a matter of time before it does, I just know it...

Yup, I've been forced into being a Windows 10 beta tester for M$ over the past 2+ years now at work, as business is being told upgrade or no more support...

Most definitely will not do the same on my personal laptop; I can look after it myself and don't need these so called "important" Windows security updates.

As you say Retroplay; Windows 7 has been rock solid; very different experience to what I see whilst at work, and note this is with brand new, top of the range hardware

Guess what, got stuck at a never ending Welcome screen this time with the circle thingie doing nothing but spinning around...

Fuck this shit, life's simply too short for this kind of BS.
Back to 7, support or not, I don't care, Windows is dead as far as I'm concerned.
What a crock....

Hey guys, i have nothing in favour of Windows 10

But it's not the lack of Windows 7 support a real problem ?

I mean, system will go to be vulnerable to viruses or other malware without system updates

It's not this the main point ?

Yeah, probably.
Anyway, I'll just have to get an extra 6-8TB HDD and back up all the stuff I have lying around, then reformat the lot to EXT4 and install Manjaro KDE on this PC too.

That I know is solid as a rock and doesn't fuck up after updating or making custom settings.

I personally leave the Windows system as it is

I made the same with Windows 7

I mean, no particular changes in the settings

I only make attention to update Windows and the Internet security program

That's all, for the rest i mainly don't touch anything

The problems with leaving Windows as is in 10's case is, it's a completely unusable incoherent mess to navigate.

Aaaanyway, it doesn't matter now, good old 7 is back up running again (also heavily customised for my needs/workflow), no crashes or shenanigans of any kind.

Yep, that's important, and why business are eager to upgrade. But that in itself doesn't make Windows 10 an enjoyable experience. Every day I use the calculator in Windows, and every day it's an annoying reminder that, somehow, things have taken a step backwards. This machine is no slouch (SSD, 16GB RAM, 3.5GHzx6 Xeon), but the calculator takes *seconds* to open. Under Windows 7 it opens quicker than I can move my fingers from the F8 key (my calculator shortcut) to the numeric keypad, so effectively I can press F8 and immediately type in my calculation. Under Windows 10, my calculation ends up being entered into a document, as a line of code, or into a chatbox somewhere before the calculator even appears. Yes, it's a small thing, but you'd thing such a simple thing could be done well...

Really strange Daedalus

Perhaps is because i leave the system as simple as possible, as i already told

But my calculator open fast here

Anyway, it's not my intention a "Windows 10 defense"

For me it was mandatory to upgrade

So i'm trying to see things in a optimistic way

Interesting thread anyway

They will be vulnerable to more viruses and malware, up to date systems are not immune.

Speaking of F8.
I wonder who the "genius" who thought it would be a good idea to remove the option to boot into safemode is.

Since Windows 2000 I have removed ALL of the "security & anti-virus" programs.
And you know what?
- no more false positive or annoying messages or slow downs (due to these programs), etc.
AND not even a single virus or malware the few times I have ran something "just to check for comparison". And it can be said I am quite often on the net ...

The so called security stuffs are the first I stop/unload when installing my system

I have lost data due to Windows issues or hardware failure , but never due to a virus or malware...

It appears to be because it's a Universal application instead of a Win32 applications, so it has to load up a whole app container before it can launch the app itself. But it's a very standard Windows 10 configuration here. A quick search shows that it's been an issue since the dawn of Windows 10, with lots of people reporting the slow startup of universal apps over the years.

I am using Win10 for around 3 years now and never had a need to log into safemode. Some years ago I had to test applications in 32 and 64 bit environment and still have VMs I was using for testing, and none of them had any issues. I even installed Win10 on old laptops just to compare speed between XP, Win7 and Win10 (never liked Vista/Win8 and avoided installation of both) and guess what OS works best on 10 year old hardware: Win10.

IMHO it better utilizes resources and requires less resources to work properly. Also did not have to download/install any drivers, Win10 took care of all of them on old hardware?!

Since I made new computer few weeks back, for emulation I decided its best just to place external disk I used for emulation in new system (2TB hard disk) and saved lots of time of moving stuff, since everything was already setup the way I like it.

Just loaded about 120 steam games and close to get over given quote by ISP for this month. (1TB od downloads )

Yeah, that really annoys me too

Ok, so you can get to the login screen, hold <Shift> and then Restart to bring up the overly complex options (which people not understanding IT will struggle with)

...but what happens when you can't get Windows 10 to the login screen; well, then you're going to have use the boot CD or something.
