DiskImage: When learning to read proves futile.

So I began to learn to read in Kindergarden. This is something I was told would come in handy in my later years...

Well they were wrong. :/

I downloaded DiskImage. Put the DosDevices where they should go, DiskImage.device in Devs, Diskimagectrl in C: along with the diskimage creation tool.

I mount device DI0:.

Load Diskimagectrl GUI. It sees DI0:

I then try to load an ADF and...

Drum roll please!!!

Nothing happens! Neat Hugh?

So what could I possibly be missing that I'm not seeing in the docs?

Thanks in advance.

Diskimage does work but i didn't find the docs that great and it took ages for me to figure out how to get it to work. What could you be missing? Any number of things.
It can mount hard disk images, cdroms, ipf images... Too complicated if all you want to do is mount an adf.
If that is the case instead you could try fmsdisk which is more straightforward and for that task better to use.

I would like to not only mount ADF files, but ISO's and HDF's as well.

I have checked the icon info to make sure it looked right (as suggested in another thread) and that all checked out fine.

Also, in the mean time I installed OS 3.5 and now I can see the device after it has been mounted and an ADF has been assigned to it (or how ever you phrase that).

The thing is that it shows up on the desktop as:

DI0: Uninitialized

There is no Icon Info to be selected.

If I try to format it says that the drive has a 95Mb Capacity, but...

When I try to actually format it either says:

Disk not Validated

or

Seek Fail

Just download TransADF and TransADF-GUI to mount adf-images. You can mount RAD: and use that for the images.

DiskImage is handy when dealing with eg. ISO-images.

EDIT: I uploaded version 52.30 of DiskImage to the Zone for you to test, it works for me when using ISO/BIN -files. Haven't tested with adf's...

Bingo!!! That did the trick thank you VERY much!

Note this did not work with OS 3.5 or 3.9 as it caused the system to crash and reboot, but it seems good so far on 3.1. Thank you!!!

This should be part of the OS.

Matter of fact I remember MorphOS having this or something like it built in.

@XDelusion

Just seen your post about long file names on ISO's being cut off over on amiga.org. I don't post over there so I thought I would reply here.
You probably need WBNameLength found here under Workbench:

Regarding to mounting of ADF & ISO images: with Dopus Magellan it is just matter of double-click over *.adf or *.iso image:

ADF images: [ Show youtube player ]

ISO images: [ Show youtube player ]

HDF images I'got similar way but just found the HDF filetype deleted accidently...

You can use Deficons to achieve this with DiskImage:

What about if somebody doesn't use icons at all but just name mode?

I simply believe the Magellan's filetype editor and its context menu system is much more advanced then DefIcons system. And, off course, you can achieve the same aim on different ways.

Regarding to DiskImage, I found the latest version from Aminet as buggy, it simply hangs up my system, it is version 52.31 a.f.i.r..

Another story is I've got HDF filetype back. It simply mounts on doble-click there the same way as ADF and ISO images. I use diskimage.device 52.29 there and it works smoothly...

Still works.

As for Magellan you are probably right, could never get into it myself...
I do know that it has a problem with PNG toolbars though, which prevents AmiKIT (for example) from looking even better. If that is fixed I will take another look at it.

Don't know why so many people are having problems with the latest version of DiskImage, it works for me. I do recall having problems with it when I tried certain filesystems. It didn't seem to like the newer CBM 1541 filesystem...

I had probs with the latest DiskImage also but found out that 52.30 works good so I stuck with that.

I've had good results with DiskImage 37.7 (Thore Boeckelmann's diskimage.device) with mounting adf, hdf and iso files.

It doesn't do all the different formats that the new diskimage does (ipf, etc.) but it seemed very stable for me for use with the basic formats.

Does it do .bin / .cue files? Because I use them alongside with some ISOs.
