Hi people,
I known that severall games can be legally downloaded from site like bttr. These are sites where legally (legally) ipf files can be downloaded? |

Although we don't want to have requests of any sort - you do raise a good point.
To my knowledge there is only one legal site for downloading a very small selection of IPFs - but I do not want to post it here to conserve their site traffic. |

It would be much better for sites such as BTTR to offer ipf images because they already have permission to host the games. I presume that a new site would have to seek permission to host the games just like BTTR did the first time round?
Talking of ipfs.... Aren't I due a few more |

About IPF's ... basically, anyone can put them up. It's just they bear whatever consequences for it. Case in point: Mp3's. You can back up your stuff as long as you like (even beyond the 1 legal backup software law - i never saw any jurisprudence on that, and doubt we ever will), when you choose to distribute it one the web... you're on your own. So, companies that own the distribution of the game can put up IPF's on their site - case in point: Factor 5, Cinemaware, etc. Anyone that has an licence for posting on the web, can also do it. In the end even a private user can post his back up, he's just own it's own, copyright holder might or not act on him. Remember, CAPS is just a format, just like zip, adf, rar ... the use people give to it is up to the users themselves. Basically distributing IPF's is not that different from distributing ADF's, the only difference is IPF's are true originals and behave as so, that's a quality difference, not a legal one. Any website that whishes to lead the way and offer IPF's is completely free to do so. |
