Thumbs down Hrmph...

BAD LUCK MAN.

I also tried everything and I can say there are various problems with various emulators, some of them mutually exclusive.

WinUAE:
Everything works fine, unless you forgot to put Disk 2 in DF1: ! The game will cause the emulator to crash (GURU) if you change the disk in the game!
Saving doesn't work at all! I tried it with both a standard ADF and a custom one on old WinUAE versions (standard only, though) and new WinUAE (both). No way.
And this is ESSENTIAL: without ID disk you can't go on.

WinFellow:
Works up to the Workbench but ... since WinFellow doesn't handle Soft Reset correctly yet, the game can't be played!
Game invokes a soft reset when double clicking the "DIVE" icon. This causes WinFellow to hang completely. (But unlike WinUAE, you can still work with your Windows system afterwards and you don't have to reboot )

Sorry ... no good news (yet).

Hey, thanks for coming to my aid again, Andreas! Guess We'll just have to wait for the emulator writers to gain some more ground. But why is it that the games I reeeaaaalllly care about are the ones that don't work yet...
Is it just me or?

Unfortunately, the old E/A games have always been a major pain for emulation, but often they were just as buggered on any upgraded Amiga. I guess the best solution is to find original versions that we can image for the WHD team (who seem to have their hands full as it is...)

Hmm, maybe not, I seem to remember helping someone with this game some time ago, probably in my AEN days, could someone upload the disk/s again so I can have a fudge around with it and see what I can do.

No promises mind, I might be thinking of a different game entirely

OK Ian! I've uploaded Return to Atlantis in the Zone again. Twistin gave me one set and I found another out in space. It's been cracked by some team and it gets to the black screen past workbench.
Thanks to all concerned...

I dumped an original that seems to work fine under WinUAE+KS1.2+512kb, with save disk and all. I used LockPick v2 to remove the "key disk check" protection on Disk 2. Let me know if you want this in the Zone or if you just need to try different settings.

Did you have to try it in NTSC or did it work in PAL, as well?

Well, I first tested it with NTSC checked, but I just tested it without NTSC checked and it works the same, although I only went to the ID disk request.

The version in the zone works.

config:-

Kick 1.2, 512k chip & 512k slow, 68000, slow but more compatable mode (May not be needed, but I always use it anyway).

As far as the log disk is concerened I just use the same disk the game uses.

I'll test it with more config's later, but the version in the zone right now, uploaded by RocketMack works.

After more testing:-

It appears (To me anyway) the game doesn't like working with loads of extra (Possibly technically illegal) memory, for instance I use the config above and it works fine with kick 1.2 & 1.3 without any problems (including disk swapping) but the minute I try to use my normal config (ie 8mb chip mem w/kick 1.3) the soft reset doesn't work, it's just keeps on going back to workbench, I supect it's an error with (Win)UAE, but don't quote me on that

Anyway, it works so you should all send large amounts of cash to my address

Bravo gentlemen! Again I thank you all. This little episode has convinced me to learn more about Winuae. Up to this point I have shunned extensive use of it, but getting Return to Atlantis to work is more than enough motivation.
I can see that it's going to be a long night...

Question

Well I said I did already get it to work in WinUAE before, provided that both disks are in the drives.
But I couldn't save!
Ian, how did you handle this ID disk thing?

Meaning, use the original game disk. It appears I called it a log disk instead of ID disk, sorry you couldn't figure out what I meant.

Meaning, it works even if you don't insert both disk's into DF0: and DF1: respectively.

OR USE A COPY!
Of course, damnit! Thanks Ian! Why didn't I have this idea before?
I bet you five to one that the original manual suggests to COPY the disk and use the copy as an ID disk ... - makes sense, so you can preserve the original CRC of the original disk, leaving it unmodified...

Question

Hello

I just tried 3 different versions of the game *I found* but I was unable to start the game withe UAE (latest Version). The softreset/game start doesn´t work for me.

I think I need a different version...
