A3000 Keyboard issue

Hi
I have an amiga 3000, thats part of a VR machine from the 90`s.

I`m making a control unit for it, and I need to wire a keyboard controller in.

I have a couple from Amiga 500 keyboards.

I`ve double checked the pinout at the din plug, but all I get when I plug it in is loads of " ' " , and the system does not function

Any ideas?

Swap dat and clk, and try again. Also try hitting ' once.

I tried swapping clock & data cables.
Tried same on two boards.

Neither board has the actual keyboard attached - just wires coming off it - to connect to PC controlled relays to simulate key presses.

Tested with and with out relays attached.

With Clk/Data one way - the 4 & lines of ' seem to be sent to the amiga almost instant, as if I unplug the keyboard - it still keeps going till 4+ lines are full.

With Data/Clk other way, it does the same, but seems to `stutter`, ie, 10-15 ',. then a few more ' , then completes the 4 + lines of them.

I will be honest - I`m not 100% sure of the working order of these boards, as I got them from Ebay - and have never tested.
I`ll try one from a working amiga to see what happens.

But any other ideas would be great.

I know it should work, as a similar system is used on one of the Virtualtiy machines, where a plastic box has 9 buttons on it for various functions (credit machine, start game, reset game). These buttons are wired to the a A500 Keyboard PCB, and then wired to a 5pin din to plug into the A3000.

I`ve just tried a third keyboard controller..
still doing the same.

But.. this one is a full A500+ keyboard..
So after all the ', I press return, and it then seems the keyboard works fine..

So any ideas why I`m getting lots of ' before I can use the keyboard?

Ok, for some reason it has started working...

but it works perfectly now.... thanks
