Is is possible to mod a NES control pad to work with amiga?

Hi,

Is is possible to mod a NES control pad to work with amiga?
The QuickShot NES controller I have has a 4-way d-pad, A and B buttons and a Start button.

Of course it is possible, I'd say like any (most) others, and shouldn't be too hard after checking which cable is which, you can either:

1. Rip the pad apart, unsolder the original cable and solder the "amiga" cable to the output connections or (depending how advanced the construction is) directly to the buttons on the "board" inside the pad.

2. Build an adaptor to connect the original (untouched) pad to the amiga joy port.

I'm too lazy and always used the 1st method.

I remember reading nintendo controllers use serial data streams to output their button information.
So constructing a cable adaptor without using extra logic is impossible.
The only quick and dirty hack is to cut the controller pcb button traces and solder your new cable to the buttons directly.

Smoorke is correct.

There is plenty of info on the NES protocol if you want to make an adapter.

Not a NES controller, but a PSX one (eheh, redundant). Look for APPE on aminet.

It uses only one PIC16F84, a 4MHz crystal and 4 resistors!

You could get a Master System controller that has roughly the same dimensions as a NES pad with the advantage of it already working with the Amiga.

Eheh, I've click on the wrong "quote" button. But what I said is true: is very easy to construct an interface to a PlayStation joypad to use in any Amiga.

Here is the thing: http://aminet.net/docs/hard/appe_v32.lha
