Anyone using the new GP2X amiga emu?

Its ACE!! currently on vesion 0.7.2a it runs at full speed with sound and can play many games perfect. At the moment im playin team 17s arcade pool but as i have a 4gb disc full of games theres plenty to try out. Anyone else using this emu? at the mo its only emulating a 1.3 amiga 500 but it does the job very well indeed.

Yay! shame it doesnt support zip files tho and most of the time i get a black screen when loading (usual amiga screen etc) and as theres no track number indicator i have no idea if the game is loading or not. Team 17s arcade pool works great BUT takes literally 5 mins to load.

Me too, I've restarted playing Fury of the Furries. The latest release is fantastic, Can't believe they've got it up to speed (and quite a few didn't think it was possible)

Critical seems keen to take over the reigns again and iron out a few niggles and implement save states so i don't think we've seen the last release just yet

PS. Is it me or does save to disk no longer work?

Try setting the status line to "on" while loading. The track indicator is the same as in UAE.

There's a script in there called "UAE4all-tweak.gpu" or somesuch - it's plain (unix) text, just edit that and set your settings in there. Just don't use notepad if you're in windows.

No you dont, you want a new slimline PSP.

333MHz MIPS CPU,
64Mbyte RAM,
480x270 24-bit LCD,
Hardware 3D Accelerator,
TV Out,
WiFi,
Top Mainstream 3D games,
Good Homebrew scene

Pretty much beats the GP2x on all counts.

Yeah I agree with alexh why get the gp2x when you can have slower amiga emulation on a more expensive device with a blury crap screen, Oh and you can also have terrible MAME emulation if you get the psp.

Gp2x has 64meg and tv out for the last two years by the way...

Back on topic: The arm asm cyclone m68k core really has boosted this emus speed through the roof.

Not to mention that with the GP2X it's a case of "drag and drop emulation", whereas with the PSP you have to find a custom OS, downgrade, upgrade, then try to decide whether or not you want to play a new game, or keep your emulators...

An open-source handheld running linux, accessible to anyone that cares to write for it? How can you not want that?

Mind you, the "spritual successor" to the GP2x, designed and built by the leaders of the 2x community may well be on the way by christmas. The currently leaked specs are rather tasty, and make the PSP look quite, quite weak.

i would get a gp2x if it didnt lack the basics like a bloody d-pad!

thb: i very much doubt the screen will be the same as the one on yours - mine is newer than yours, and i have no complaints about "blur".... i suspect the new model will be better still... no guarentees on that though.

Zetr0 - i doubt you have the new "slimline" model though

alexh - as much as i love the old hacked psp, i think it will be a while before we see the new slimline model homebrew-enabled.

sounds like great work on the emulator. if only there was a decent mips asm 68k core for PSPUAE

lack of save-states is a bit silly... as soon as the gp2x uae has it, you can start abusing the function as some of us have been doing on pspuae for a long time now

Ahem, you say slower, I say more accurate and with good 68020 (A1200) support.

£10 is hardly a bank buster. PSP = £129 RRP, GP2x = £119 RRP

I dont really have anything to compare with, but as long as bilinear interpolation is switched off it looks ok to me.

GP2x also has it's faults, the thumbstick is crap and the headphone socket is easily broken.

But that is just an implementation issue. On the PSP you have PERFECT PSOne emulation and reasonable N64 emulation not something that is going to happen on the GP32 _ever_.

I think if they downgraded to 0.8.22 (UAE4ALL) instead of 0.8.29-WIP4 then that might help

A1200? on pspuae?? where my friend? i beg to differ! (unless you know of some other amiga emu for psp?)

(68020, ECS however.... its enough for some CD32 games!)

please come and discuss this matter further on www.pspuae.com

afaik, uae4all was ported to the PSP "behind the scenes" but was of no improvement over e-uae WIP3 (wip4 is still in progress whilst e-uae revisions are being made btw - HD supports may come with that)

If there is anything other than the screen of the PSP i want them to release UMD drives... I think this would seriously open up so much stuff!!

just think... a UMD drive instead of a floppy drive on your amiga... awsome!

and other hand helds would seriously benefit from a hack or two.

Read slower, A1200 support? Really? Where? AGA support? Where?

Read more expensive.

I do, I have both, once you see the difference you will agree too.

I like the thumbstick, it reminds me of a real digital joystick that I had on my amiga making for a more accurate simulation. The people who complain about the stick are generation console kiddies who need a dir pad to be half decent at games. (No offence Horace) The headphone jack was a problem on some first editions only, I have a first edition and have never had this problem. Thas like saying the psp has a dodgy UMD drive because some broke.

That is just an implementation issue PSONE is actually emulated at the moment and gets regular updates. Many 2d games running at respectable speeds already.

Anyways how about you threadjackers try UAE4ALL and then comment on the actual topic.
