OpenDUNE OS3 RTG SDL
Amiga RTG port of OpenDUNE By NovaCoder: OpenDUNE is an open source re-creation of the popular game "Dune II", originally made by Westwood Studios, and released by Virgin Entertainment. It attempts to re-create the original game and apply modern technology to it to allow it to be run natively on most operating systems.
OpenDUNE OS3 RTG SDL v0.9.001: Download Requirements: 1) An RTG Amiga with a fast 68040 processor 2) AHI installed (v4.18 recommended) 3) 3.1 ROMS (3.0 ROMS may cause it to run slowly) 4) A copy of the PC game data files Features: * RTG SDL port * MIDI support * AHI Sound support * Fullscreen and window mode support Configuration Options: The tooltype 'CLOSE_WB' can be used to close the Workbench (3.1 ROMS recommended). You must run OpenDUNE from the Workbench, running from the Shell is not supported. The AHI device used will be the one configured in your AHI Prefs (Unit 0). The default game data install directory is 'Games:OpenDUNE/data'. If you decide to use a different game data directory then you'll need to update the 'opendune.ini' file to match. You will need to install the CAMD library if you want to use an external MIDI device. You need to enable your CAMD MIDI device using the 'opendune.ini' file. MIDI music sounds wonderful too I did my best to fix up the sound issues, the next Aminet version has correct frequency for the intro speech but maybe too fast for the game. Must be a bug in the openDune engine itself. Last edited by NovaCoder; 17 April 2019 at 14:10. |

I can never remember, is it Dune 2 or Dune 2000, which I thought was an upgrade to Dune 2 that OpenDUNE is based upon?
Edit:looked it up myself, it is Dune 2, which actually is out for the Amiga already, right? Though with RTG support, it does make it more playable. I need to give it a try, Dune 2 was fantastic. Last edited by slaapliedje; 17 April 2019 at 22:17. |

Thanks NovaCoder!
Tried downloading the latest version from Aminet, but the archive contained the old version. One small tip: Instead of "Games:OpenDUNE/data" you can put "PROGDIR:data" and it should work wherever you move the game drawer. Last edited by James; 18 April 2019 at 17:51. Reason: added word |

Someone posted a nice video of this running on WinUAE (obviously this is playable on real hardware too!).

In WinUAE you must have a sound card on your PC that has midi enabled (pci or pci-xpress card) and open support midi in "IO port" |

Issue with OpenDune
Hello,
My setup: A500+, 2MB Chip, Vampire 500 v2, OS 3.1.4, Picasso96 2.2 (the one from Jens Schoenfeld) By default OpenDune runs in fullscreen mode. When I start it my monitor looses the signal and goes blank. The game does work in window mode. I had the same issue with Duke Nukem, and the way I fixed it was to change the resolution from 320x200 to 320x240. My 16:9 monitor doesn't seem to handle the 320x200 resolution. I am assuming it's the same issue as with OpenDune, but I can't change the resolution. I guess my question is can I somehow change the resolution after all or is there some trickery I can do with P96? Thank you! |

Also try enabling the 2x scaler in the dune config file, I think that will double the resolution. Last edited by NovaCoder; 26 April 2019 at 04:13. |

I will give that a shot first. Thanks Nova! This is a really great port. thank you for making it! I still fondly remember playing Dune II on my A1200 back in the day.

Also, it's funny that you mentioned Duke Nukem because I'm just about to upload the RTG version of my Duke Nukem port (AmiDuke) which might work better for your setup. Last edited by NovaCoder; 26 April 2019 at 06:18. |

So, ModePro worked. Doubling the resolution did not fix it for me. I can use scale2x but it also only works with ModePro. I suppose my monitor can't handle 320x200 or 640x400. It has to be 320x240 or 640x480. Looks like I am the only one having this issue. Perhaps it's time for a new monitor |
