I saw today demo which I thought was not possible on Amiga 500 - Siesta by Axis: http://bitworld.bitfellas.org/demo.php?id=10983 So even after all these years you can not be sure.

Why did you think it's not possible? Not many colours are used.

I never saw similar demo for A500. Maybe some effects are just some color cycling tricks.

This is heavily inspired by Darkroom which was coded by Dweezil. The effects are quite cool for 68000/A500, there sure as hell is no color cycling used here! Good intro by Stelios (RIP!) as usual.

by now, I found 3 or 4 intros on bitworld with that kind of sine scroller.
blue velvet pack menu/tech another intro/the gang Xion Intro/Cycron edit: 1989 collection intro/Cryptoburners New Stuff/Abnormal Dolly Mixture #9 Pack intro / Anarchy - Dizzy Dream 14 intro/anarchy eddie's return/laser dance Malzbier Trinker/Paranoid New Import/sector 4 (no sinescroll : space harrier/traitor, silents acid syndrome) the rasterbars effect has been done to death on Amiga but not really with this kind of gradients ? I don't remember ever seen it. some examples ? the starfield could be done precalc bob smaller to larger with a copper mirror effect for the second middle of screen (dual playfield ?). do you know intros with this kind of starfield (perhaps less stars) ? Very interesting and decent piece of code by Mrs Beanbag (catchword: sine scroll). I definitely learned something; I tried to comprehend the minterm but was unable to make head or tail of it until I noticed that chA and not chC is set to destination address. Stupid me!
Pseudo 3D stars could be used to get a high number of moving stars per frame since they don't need costy 'divs z' or 'muls 1/z' operations. And copper jumps could be used for the color gradient bars and their cycling, couldn't they? |

I just came to update you all but of course it's already been done! I too wondered if this thread was the inspiration since the original thing seemed pretty obscure. Anyway, love this new one!

It is similar to original "not possible" post. If you pre-render and just switch buffer pointers, all is possible, and platform doesn't really matter.
I.e. stars are anim and this frees up the rest of the machine to do a standard sine scroll. Sine scroll record = Blu Sky, still. Smooth horizontal copper bars are certainly possible on OCS if they are continuously moving in one direction. The blending effect was shown in Atomix cracktro 1990, where the blend appears as a twist even. And the rest of it takes half a scanline by bitplane interference! This is no criticism, new ideas are good. The first time and maybe the second. Then it's expected and the coder with the idea is in the dog house again. Truth. |
