I already did tests on my own files. Lha is better. Now I am going to do tests on your files and show you that lha is better even on your files.

I can't help feeling this is all a tad off-topic? All Picard asked for was an Amiga version of Zip and asked if there were any other archivers on the Amiga. So why has it descended into a silly "my archiver is better than yours" argument?

Because the very first post says "lha...kind of suck"s which according to certain moderators is "software bashing" and not allowed. Yet strangely it was allowed.

What do you mean by that? Amiga version of LhA has three modes of compression: LhArc, -lh5- and -lh6-. Default is -lh5- and this one I use as of regular user would use.

Well, I don't think we argue here about whose archiver is better. I think this is just a debate. For example, I am curious why StrategyGamer claims that he manages to pack files more efficiently with LhA than with Zip. If you like, you can move some of our posts to a new thread called "LhA vs Zip". The thread might be quite cognitive.

Just to add fuel to the fire, on an A600 with a 68000 cpu, I tested the most recent Zip, LHA, and LZX all in their standard compression configs.

LZX was by far the best - much faster and a better compression ratio!

Since we are comparing filesizes I have commanded ZIP and LHA to use their best compression methods. This means all my zip files are smaller than mailman's zip files.

I ALWAYS use the -r recursive command when making archives. I ALWAYS use the best compression available.
