Apidya whdload or winuae version bug ??

hi,

i made some testing after i read about the bug in apidya in the WinUAE 1.5.1 beta thread. The first time there was a problem wit apidya was in beta 1.5.0b7 the corn plant was kompletly in red. but no vertical lines following the bomb
beta 1.5.0b8 everything was ok again no problems at all
i couldnt test beta 9-10 becouse i couldnt download them.
beta 1.5.0b11 it starts with the vertical lines
i but a savestat up in the zone it starts just before it happends.
i hope this can help to find the bug ether in winuae or whdload.
i used the whdload apidyaudios version

Yeah! As a result... I'm not alone!
I reported the same problem some weeks ago: vertical red lines following dropping bombs coordinates...
Didn't happen with WUAE 1.4.6, only from 1.5+.
I contacted both John Girvin from the installer and Toni here in the forum but the bug seems quite tricky and Toni said it's hard to reproduce, so no fix ATM!

Oh ha ha very super funny one there, TCD

Laugh? I almost did!

What was the bug that you fixed, Toni? Is Apidya doing weird things with sprites?

It was buggy optimization in sprite resolution <> bitplane resolution. When resolution changes (and sprite was active), sprite buffer (which contains possible sprite data in previous line) was cleared using new resolution instead of previous line's resolution. (you don't want to waste time to clear complete buffer when only 1/4 was used)

Hires to lores switch used lores (lores = sprite and bitplane is 1:1) resolution to clear the buffer = "hires-only" sprite data was not cleared.

So Apidya is mixing sprite resolutions and WinUAE didn't emulate that properly ?

No, very top part of display is in hires + sprites used.

EDIT:

Pre-1.5.0 version didn't support different sprite/bitplane resolutions (=sprite was always down/upscaled to bitplane resolution = looked crap if sprite was hires and bitplanes were lores, like SuperStardust AGA)
