Quake on WinUAE
Hi folks,
I've just been running Amiga Quake (found here http://devnull.owl.de/~frank/quake_e.html) with the Quake shareware files. Speed is incredible (even at 1024x768), but I do have some problems with sound. The sounds don't seem to play correctly, and messing with the WinUAE sound options doesn't seem to have much effect. Anyone had any luck with that? I've also been trying to get the mouse to work 'properly'. As it stands, the mouse controls backward and forward movements, and doesn't look up and down. I've messed with every option, but can't change it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I know it's a bit sad, when I could just run normal PC Quake, but I was curious. |

Wow, this port runs infinitely better than Duke Nukem 3D!
The command you're looking for mate is "+mlook" (no quotes). Type that in the console, and it should enable mouse aim. About the sound, I didn't seem to have any problems here. Might need AHI, which I have. Is that installed? p.s. best game port I've seen in years, I thought I'd have no hope of getting this running without a readme. However dropping the PAK files in an id1 sub-folder was all it needed to get running. No messing about, love it p.p.s. it doesn't seem capable of saving config.cfg files out, although it is capable of utilising existing ones (tried my ancient PC cfg files from archive). I've attached mine so you can have a play. Best edit this in something other than Notepad, the port saved out Amiga returns after I quit, and these don't come out too good in Notepad. I'm using MS Word. |
