There are loads of games that will fill 640x512 in WinUAE.
To name a few: Superfrog, Benefactor, Slam Tilt, Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies, Banshee, Battle Squadron A few games that use overscan and need a screensize bigger than 640x512 in WinUAE: Project-X, Pinball Illusions, Alien Breed, Assassin, Assassin SE |

That's true. Interpolating a higher resolution on a LCD display looks awful. Why they didn't choose a 4:3 display with 720x576 or 800x600 resolutions?

My points were about the Pandora not being able to display standard PAL games properly.
Which it can't. |

The pandora is poop anyway.
I bet FOL or someone else can pull it off properly on the PSP at some point. It's already pretty well done. |

My A1600 netbook runs Aros natively and has integrated J-UAE emulation which is more advanced than any other UAE apart from WinUAE, but it allows Amiga applications to be run as if they were Aros programs, using Aros windows and menus, and it can run old Amiga games either windowed or full screen. The netbook has a resolution of 1024x576 so when I run a full 720x576 PAL overscan screen on it, it fits perfectly, and just has some black space in the widescreen area on the sides.
It runs videos full screen with subtitles too, so it's perfect for a portable media player. http://home.exetel.com.au/amiga/CammyNetbookLook.JPG |

Never seen a netbook with 576 of vertical resolution, they all have, mostly, 600 pixels (1024x600 resolution) and this displays WinUAE pretty well too.

The netbook I thought I was getting was supposed to be 1024x600, but it turned out to be 1024x576. It actually kinda sucks when I have to run a game or program that needs a 800x600 screen and the bottom 24 lines are cut off. I think a 720x576 display on a 1024x600 screen with a small amount of black at the top and bottom of the screen would be fine too, plus you get the full 600 lines for compatibility with newer games and applications.
1024x576 was an early standard for netbooks that was quickly replaced by 1024x600 for obvious reasons. |

Netbooks aren't great for mobile gaming though.
Now if a decent resolution handheld with good controls and the ability to create homebrew existed... I can dream! |

Castlevania - Symphony of the Night and Castlevania - Rondo of Blood both have about 240 pixels height (Symphony has even less than 240 pixels so it's almost widescreen).
Scaled up to fill the full PSP's 272 pixels height (while keeping correct aspect ratio with black bars on the sides) they both look gorgeous. Simple bilinear filtering does the trick - you don't see any pixels being twice as high or wide as others. There's just a slight smoothing effect, but on such a tiny display it still looks great. Bilinear filtering on a 19"-LCD doesn't look good. On a 4.3"-display it does. Recommendation: play Alundra via PS1-emulator on PSP. That's 2D-gaming heaven! (Also 240 pixels height upscaled to 272 pixels height.) Last edited by john4p; 26 May 2010 at 09:12. |

I think the Pandora is going to be a fantastic portable Amiga emulator. There is no other device out there with a usable keyboard and good gaming controls in such a truly portable size.
I really don't think scaling will be an issue on a screen of this size. I'd rather scale at 800x480 than to any other device's lower resolution. But then maybe I'm biased... I'm posting this from my Pandora now! |

Tried Superfrog in WinUAE, low resolution and single lines (=> 320x256 pixels) in windowed mode at 800x480:
Used the y-slider to scale the displayed area up to the full height of the 800x480-window. Then used the x-slider to scale the width of the displayed area by the same amount (to keep correct aspect ratio). The auto-bilinear filtering resulted in this: But as the Pandora's LCD is tiny compared to the screen you're probably just looking at it'll look more like this in the end: Just to show you how 320x256-pixel games will probably look on the Pandora. That doesn't look filtered, as Project-X has the bottom of the screen cut off.
I'd like to see a video of it filtered, with fullscreen PAL games running on it. |

And with full sound emulation. The video has no sound at all, how can I know this is really fullspeed?
