How and when does it crash? What is your config? What are you running? Do you want your problem solved? Then give details please.

here´s a bit more information:

Windows version is ME. DirectX 8.0 is installed. GeForce 2 graphics
adapter. SBlive audio. All MS patches to ME applied.
All versions up to and including WinUAE 0822R1 work without
trouble. 0822R2 and 0822R3 don't work. That's why i suspected
DirectX causing trouble. DX works ok though for other apps.

I removed older version and did a clean install of 0822R2/3.
I do not run any games or anything. I just start WinUAE, change a single parameter (any one) and try to save it as a new configuration giving it a name and comment. IMMEDIATELY WinUAE crashes!

It seems that if I copy older configs (from 0822R1) to the Configuration directory I can use them as they are - it is just not
possible to change and save new configs (or even loading and re-saving an existing one). Result is always a crash.
After such a crash the config I tried to save is messed up.

I will happily provide further info - can't think of anything at the moment - but please ask.

Thank you for any help

I had lots of problesm using Me so I reinstalled Win2k long ago therefore I'm not sure what's causing the trouble but you may attach your winuae config to your message and I'll try to repeat the process

Exclamation

DirectX 8.0 is not DirectX 8.1.
Maybe you have to search for the culprit there.

When you copied over your .UAE config files, did you by chance put them on a CD or some other media that caused them to become write-protected?

I have done this in the past, and ran into similar problems. You should right click the .UAE config file and select "properties" and ensure that the file is NOT "read only" because that prevents WinUAE from being able to write changes to the config file...

Hope that helps (worked for me)...

Unhappy

Here is a transcript of the log. The last few lines are what is returned when trying to save a config. For this test I just started
WinUAE, changed NOTHING, entered a config name, and pressed SAVE config. And this was the result as well as a crash of course. At least WinUAE tells me that it's not happy - well neither am I :-)

Does this tell anybody anything ????

Oh - I almost forgot:

Config files are not writeprotected.
I have upgraded DirectX to 8.1

to no avail
But thanks anyway...

Arrow

Try to rename default.uae to default.xxx in the Configurations folder, so that WinUAE can't access the file and create a new one.

I do not have a file called "default.uae". I did not have such a file
in the older versions either. Is it really necessary ?

I tried to save config to the name "default" to create the file, but the same negative result occur.

Why? (Win)UAE uses build-in defaults if default.uae is missing.
