Direct3D being the default API setting...

...I'm not a particular fan of this, afraid to say.

I'm using 2.3.0 on my P4 3Ghz XP SP3 machine equipped with an ATI Radeon card, and with D3D I just get a black screen (though the sound still plays). Under DirectDraw of course it's perfect.

If a log file is required for any technicalness in particular just let me know, thanks. Not too sure when and why D3D became the default, hopefully somebody can explain it to an ignoramus such as myself.

"I don't support crappy hardware or drivers". (neither I do reports that lack all important information)

EDIT: I don't understand these problems, D3D works fine here even on an ancient Radeon 9700 Pro + Windows XP test machine.. (and not my problem if you use old drivers)

According to Hardware Manager, my card is listed as "ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series". I use the latest drivers made available for it, though I suspect it's treated as a "legacy" card now. I got this PC with the card and all back in 2005, please don't tell me that's considered "ancient"? I don't see the purpose of getting a top-end ninja card when I have no interest in playing those 4Ghz-requiring 40gb demanding 3D FPSes on my system.

Aside from this, what other "important information" are you expecting? I gave you my card, my system and the specific drivers I'm using. If I need to attach a logfile just let me know, thanks.

Buy a Geforce 6200 and download the first version of Forceware 94.24, works wonders on my P4 3.0ghz + WinXP Pro SP3, no more garbage ATI drivers ruining the experience
