I hate CE 2. The gfx are way worse than in part one. The gameplay might be ok with 2 players, but sucks horribly in single player, etc...
I don't like CE AGA either though, I much prefer non-AGA version. The AGA version looks like a quick and cheap recoloring. The AGA palette is too colorful and not consistent in style. But most importantly: the carefully hand-drawn anti-aliasing got totally messed up when they re-colored Chaos Engine for AGA. Bottom line: CE non-aga forever!!! |

I think that CE 2 in ITSELF wasn't a bad game. It has a unique idea, interesting puzzles, good graphics, fearsome AI (in single player) and an entertaining two-player mode. If it was called anything but Chaos Engine 2, it would've been a hit.
The problem is, that everyone compared the game to the prequel (which was clearly superior in every possible aspect), and from that perspective, it's a total failure... |

My opinion is that AGA Chaos Engine looks like a console game, lacking the stylish, slick, silver-bronze machismo of the Amiga game. Gimme that ole art, where each pixel was placed perfectly, over all this smooth, colourful girly AGA gradation.

I thought the DOS version looked pretty nice in VGA. Fitting for the time with chunky sprites!

I have to say I prefer the non AGA versions of these games but probably only because I played them first.
