Aha, thanks Jope

Do you know if the Timex Sinclair 2068 = 48K or 128K Spectrum? (Hardware is, AFAIK, the same other than increased memory on the latter)

The 128k has much better audio, it's equipped with the AY.

Thanks for the correction. So 128K has more memory and superior sound chip

To make the games "region free" would mean that the programmer ensures their software is tested and working on both PAL and NTSC. Typically they only test it in the format that they use so this is confused with region locked. Not the case at all.

Obviously with the system turned off You should then be able to fire the Amiga up again, this time in the other "region" using the other chips
Would it be possible to support both PAL and NTSC regions only using different oscillators (or clock source like DCM) without changing custom chips?

At first I was thinking "no", but maybe the custom chips actually get their differences in scan lines depending on the crystal frequency used.

With ECS/AGA it is possible to switch between what the Amiga erroneously calls PAL and NTSC in software (eg Early Startup Menu in KS 2.04+, or WHDLoad).

Additionally a switch can be installed.

Thanks, I totally forgot about the early startup (left+right mouse button during boot) menu having PAL/NTSC settings.
