MKII + SCSI module - Big SCSI HDD 73 - 146 GB and how to correct set it for using ...

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with a big SCSI hard drives and I need your help.
So, how many of you using SCSI HDD with Amiga Cyberstorm cards?

I will be specify my problem:

I have the following disk: Seagate ST373207LW 73 GB 68 PIN
HDToolBox detect this disk I think correct as 68 GB with FileSystem 45.16. Than I save the setup and reboot Amiga. After that I can see partions but not one 68GB but seven partions!!! Then I make one partition SDH0 as 68 GB, then I format and I can see one working 68 GB partion but still I see another partions as not formated and they shows as 68 GB each.

So, I would like to ask you were can be the problem. I should see only one partion and I do not now why I see another. Do you have any advices for me please? Will be nice someone using large SCSI disk and know how to correct set up the disk for using with cyberstom MKII SCSI module.

Thank You for all your advices.

The issue is most likely with the HDD's firmware or the adapter from 68 to 50 pins you use. It replies to all LUNs with the same information.

You could try to set the "Last LUN" flag in the RDB and hope that the MK2 respects that flag. http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online...gerdbflags.lha

I don't remember, does the MK2 have a boot menu like the MK3? There you could disable LUNs.

You should also try out the SCSI software which comes with the MK2. Maybe either UnitControl or SCSIConfig has an option to configure the SCSI bus to not look for multiple LUNs.

Seems like the drive either responds on all IDs or all LUNs of a single ID. Judging by the documentation of that drive, there are no jumper settings to help this.

There is a force single ended jumper, which you should probably set.

Try checking scsicontrol from the phase 5 install disks to see if you can disable multiple LUN support.

Hi Thomas,

thanks for answer. I usualy use HDToolBox for settings hard drives. What do you use, which program? MK2 does not have boot menu like as MK3. I will try your advice, coud you specify how to use this program?
Phase 5 have two programs, UnitControl and SCSIConfig. SCSIConfig is for config SCSI drives but I do not use it becouse I do not how. Will be good some user manual for this program from someone who use this program.
And yes on UnitControl can I see that the program show disk on all LUN positions. So, shall I unmark all LUNs ID and mark only basic LUN0 ID?
What option shall I leave marked like as reselection, asynchron ......

Thank you very much for your nech advices.

I had the exact same problem (well, worse - couldn't boot really) with my MK1.
Fixed it by hacking the ROM to skip multi-LUN checking.

A couple of older threads with same issue, all on on cyber scsi it seems.

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=1187248
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=84419&page=4

I’d try settig the last lun flag in the rdb with rdbflags:
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/RDBFlags-1.3

Last resort would be to disable automount and mounting the partition with a mountlist from a tiny bootpartition on IDE (or SCSI if a3000) like in one of those threads.

Thread merged with the one from the OT - Technical section; and then moved from the New to Emulation or Amiga scene section to the support.Hardware section.

Thanks thomas for the report

Nothing that isn't going in elbow deep...

Load up the firmware in ReSource, look for loops that goes 0 to 7, ponder a bit until you find the best candidate (probably the innermost one), note the offset, load it up in NewZap and hex edit it to 0(or 1 whatever will terminate the loop at once).
Find yourself a fresh (E)PROM, transfer the edited file to the pc, burn them on the cheap China knock-off ROM burner. Swap with old ROM chip. Bob's your father's brother!

For the CybSCSI MK1? No. I have only done that myself.
Also, it isn't a proper fix as the code should really understand that it sees mirrors/duplicates, but it works for now as long as I don't have sub-LUNs (I think _maybe_ CD changers have that?).

I don’t have this problem on my MK3, but I also didn’t have it on the MK2 when I had one.

Thank you for answer. Maybe did not have this problem on MK II because you did not try bigger disk then 36 GB, 73 GB or 146 GB. Or what disk with what all sizes you tried?

Thanks for answer.

Hello everyone again,

I have a few questions:

1. Is here someone else who did not have a problem with bigger disks on Mk II or MK III?
2. I would like to know which disks sizes you tried for using with MK II and MK III. Write here
size of disk in GB, only SCSI not with SCSI adapter-ide.
3. I am planning to change my MK II for MK III, so if anybody know someone who has this
card for sell, please inform me.

Thank You!
