Best old school BBS & client for Amiga?

Hi all, what's the best BBS that is like the old ones in the UK back in the 80s/early 90s?

And what app would you recommend to access it on a A500?

Thanks. Do you have a link to the recommended Telnet app for A500+ please?

Then how would I connect to Max's BBS?

sorry to say this but standard A500 run system VERY slow even for add mem
if you try Telnet it what you need is run some TCP/IP stack
and TelnetD.device / Telser.device for fake Serial connection
all traffic goes through these 2 prg and it slow down system to crawl
even my 030/50mhz have hard work to serv 2 or more connection at same time
one is fine

best chance is to use PC or some Raspery pi a replacement for real modem
and you get Telnet but only one Node and slow 19.200baud

my MAX board

.: Genetic-point BBS :.
Telnet://g-point.tunk.org port:500
www g-point.tunk.org port:2222

Thanks. I'm not worried about speed as I just want to try it one time as proof of concept of doing these things on A500+.

I already have a full internet connection (through Plipbox) using AmiTCP. I can do email, web now.

I'm not clear about what app to download from Aminet?

Telnet BBS id DCTerm (Telnet client inside)

telser.device

installing telser you only need Amitcp directory and assign for it
if you use some other Tcp/ip software then Amitcp

Telser was what I needed. I installed that, then I just accessed the BBS from Shell using:

Code:
telnet h=g-point.tunk.org
Back to the good old days! And the SysOp immediately interrupted the session and wanted to talk to me. Nice!

You don't need Telser if all you're doing is telnetting from the shell prompt.

Even if I'm only connected through AmiTCP and a plipbox, not a modem? Shell automatically called Telser.

Cheers!

Telser is only used with traditional terminal programs such as Term or NComm in order to fool them into using telnet instead.

The downside of using telnet is that you (probably) won't get the correct colours / ANSI art etc.

This is where a terminal program is nice. Also a terminal program will be able to transfer files using the zmodem file transfer protocol. I used Term back in the day but NComm was very popular too.

DCTelnet is a telnet program with proper ANSI and ZModem support.

I actually had used an original CNet BBS software. I thought it was quite powerful at the time. I was running on my Amiga 3000. Not sure you can get it running these days without a licence. I do recall checking out the others and they didn't did have the customisations the others had in their day.

AmTerm & AmTelnet - for MUI WB window based apps.
DCTelnet for full screen.
Terminus (fastest scrolling on slow machines)

Hmm. So DCTelnet crashes, and Terminus (and I suspect AmTerm/AmTelnet) tries "Initializing modem..." which I don't have. Though I did install Telser.

Long story short, how can I connect via my Plipbox to a BBS, in the same way that Shell allowed me to (above) but with more graphics support of a Telnet program?
