Apollo 630 Hardware Pr0n for Zetro and my Amiga Buddies
My Apollo 630 arrived today
I'll get the bad news out the way first... I got stung for £50 customs charges But to see it working I almost forget that.... Its much smaller then I thought it would be but its a good fit on my CPU, clipped straight on and has been running for about 40 mins now Just in the process of setting up my 4gb Microdrive with CWB ADV but to test I'm using my CWB 68k setup, its super fast and my spare 32mb Simm seems to work fine... Well I guess you're here to see the pics, not to listen to me rabbit on Here ya go: Last edited by fitzsteve; 27 March 2010 at 00:30. |

£50!!!!!!! That is so stupid. Sounds like the sender didn't fill out the customs sticker correctly, as the item only has collectors value, is second hand and negligible retail value as it's no longer sold.
Man, really look after that A600. To be fair, you have a very rare item that will still fetch a lot if you resell, but that custom's charge sucks. I sell things oversees, and you have to make sure you mark it correctly for a given country to not incur customs charges. If it's an item that is very well known to have value (like cigerettes) then this will obviously get you into trouble if it's chosen as a sample at customs. But ebay second hand stuff not being sent on mass never gets picked on in my experience. For the UK, you have to tick "Gift" on the customs sticker and state the item is of no higher value than £36. No one at customs would have had a clue what it was if they'd opened it as a random sample and would have let it pass. Oh well, you have an awesome A600 now. Looks really good. I must admit, I'm jealous of your Amiga hardware collection - you have some excellent kit. |

Thanks guys
I'll sort the sysinfo shot out for you Zeet's once I've got the CWB ADV setup in there She's resting now after a good SWOS session... I noticed the CPU gets pretty warm, ok pretty hot lol, but I was epecting that. I've put a nice heat sink on it now and hopefully the case fits back together... Its only one of those stick on ones so it'll come off easily enough. I'll be keeping this one safe, don't worry. Not ure what mods will come next, i've got a minty white case top to go on Updates to follow after the break... |

Looking good.
I think the ADV is suffering in the palette stakes - you may have to optimize it yourself. An ECS Amiga is actually a lot slower than an AGA at displaying 16 colours, even with a faster processor. How does it run? Perhaps you are better off with the 8 colour Workbenches, but it is of course your preference! |

Yep it seems to be working ok
As you say Bloodwych, I had to disable copper as it caused an error on startup, no biggie. Its a little slower than expected its kind of like running CWB ADV SP on an 020 if that makes sence, but i'm sure I can get some more speed out of it Its still much quicker running CWB ADV then the stock 68000 is running CWB 68k though.... Games, etc run nice and fast like the 030 in my 1200, no slowdown is SWOS for example and the speccy emulation is full speed. Going to try some other stuff after i've fixed some things. Wont be able to close the case properly yet as the CF-IDE is getting in the way, I'll need a longer cable... So far, so good though on most things... & Look forward to hearing more on your Tower project Andrew Steve. Update: Set 8 colour now, much faster and still looks very nice Further Update, still running! Seems cooler now with the Heat Sink but will look out for a small Fan. Yep, thats a tempting thought
Well I've closed the case now, it took three attempts to get it to close without knocking the Apollo off lol. Don't really want to glue it in place as its pretty secure as long as you dont turn the Amiga upside-down to fit screws I think the Heat Sink is doing a pretty good job but a fan is going to be a good idea Thanks again for all the nice comments, I've got such a big grin this evening |

Just noticed, there's little point having the rom switch now, since the 1.3 rom wont work with the 030
I guess I could hook up a 2nd switch on the pins that disabled the board More mods... |
