My current workbench configuration, missing the titlebar information (version / chip / fast free etc...).

Specs:

A500 ECS, 2MB chip, ACA500+, ACA1221EC @ 28MHz, X-Surf 500.
Indivision ECS. PAL HiRes 8 colours, 680x566 resolution.
Standard KickStart 3.1.4, Workbench 3.1.4.

The goal was to keep the machine as responsive as possible while enjoying a decent workbench environment with proportionately legible fonts, and cut all unnecessary items like extra colors or backgrounds.
Usable chipmem is 1,830Kb out of 2,000Kb after startup, and FastMem 6.300Kb out of 9,000Kb.

Clearly I'm not the only one who spends HOURS customizing the look of their system. At least I used to when I had time. Currently trying to find a few hours to set up the dual-boot on my A4000 (OS4.1 + OS 3.9).

My new 8 color wb. Got fed up with needing many colors for Glow icons so I changed to MagicWb icons. Not super pretty, but very clean and tidy.

I love MagicWB, it is my preferred set up. It takes some time though replacing all of the icons.

This is my own home made Workbench 1.3 disk called BayBench and it used no Workbench disk in the creation. I basically used old cover disks to create the Workbench disk and as a 1.3 set up it has MultiDOS for reading and formatting PC disks. It has DiskMaster II as the file manager and TSGUI for reading and writing ADF files. I have UNZIP set up so I can decrunch Windows PC disks with ADF files inside and then simply write my own Amiga 500 disks. Just one disk and all my own work.

PC disk at the ready ..

DiskMaster II on disk

And me inflating an ADF ... cool.

And writing an ADF

The one disk solution to unarchiving PC Files and writing ADF files on an Amiga 500

When Stern released their new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pinball machine they made these awesome wallpaper images based on the new artwork, so I remapped one to my 16 colour Workbench.

The Workbench on my Amiga 4000 has two startup variants controlled by an environment variable. Depending on the state of this variable it boots into a simple and ugly AGA PAL version for WHDLoad etc or into a RTG version.

Very morbid backdrop, I must say.
