[nitpick] Time zones problem

Quote:
The time now is 05:10 AM
No EAB, it isn't

I'm in GMT-3, and the official time now is 4:10AM

Seems like the time for GMT-3 has been now set to DST, which is wrong, because we're not using DST.

Unless most people in GMT-3 use DST right now. Shatterhand, what time is it over there? Same as what teh EAB says? (you are GMT-3 right?)

Just thought I'd let you know RCK, I really dont care if you change it or not, it's not importnt. But you like making the EAB a perfect place, so...

it's strange...

- the abime.net server is set to GMT+1 (check the zone for real server time)
- my account is set to GMT+1 and I don't have any time problem.

Yes, here is GMT-3, 09:50 but EAB says GMT-3 is 10:50.
Could it be GMT is one hour ahead? summer time maybe?

Yeah, I had noticed that eons ago, I just changed the time zone to match my time here. It's funny, because when summer times ends there, I have to changed it here. When summer time start here, I have to change it again

Question:
-> is there countries which are not using the Daylight Savings Time ? (+1h / -1h every six months)

(if no, I can handle this change every six months)

if yes, some of you will have their time broken during half a year...
akira ?

as far as I know that is 'almost' impossible.(I say almost because I'm not 100% sure, just 99,9%) Why? Because not all countries have DST. And to top it all off, not all places in the U.S. observe DST. In particular, Arizona, Hawaii, and most of Indiana do not use it.

And not all switch to DST at the same time. In the US the rule is, the first Sunday of April and the last Sunday of October. In Europe on the other hand it's the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October. And in Isreal they change on Mondays.

Ah, and I believe that DST in the southern hemisphere is backwards to that of the northern hemisphere.

Phew!

- Okay, the server's time is now set to Europe / Paris time: GMT+1 with Daylight Savings Time.
- it's the actual best solution for 80% of members

> If you are in a country which is using Daylight Savings Time, it's okay for you, your time should be always good.
> If you are in a country which is NOT using Daylight Savings Time, then you will have to update your profile TimeZone every six months.

(another solution is in work, maybe for v3...)

RCK,

Now I've got a question about dates ...

Can you set the year back to 1990 ?

I think this would be great because:
  • The Amiga would be at the peak of it's powers
  • I could still go down to the shop and buy Amiga magazines
  • I could write to Commodore and tell them not to spend money on the CD32/CDTV and to instead develop the A1200 straight away with built in HD, CD Drive & modem as standard on all models.
  • Bill Gates would be poorer
  • Windows Millenium would still be 10 years away
  • The internet would be pop-up free
  • We could still laugh at Atari ST's we see in shops

We use DST, but not in the same time as Europe (obviously ) , and not that long. Here DST only lasts for 3-4 months.
