This is pretty fascinating. I used to watch the world cup tournaments before they invented rolling. I find it fascinating that young ppl can play using such obscure techniques.

Now that we all have matured (at least on the outside): would anyone here let their kids play that much Tetris (or any other computer game)?

After 34 Years, Someone Finally Beat Tetris

My kids spend way too much time on Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft but at least during the winter season its not easy to chase them out of the house, because all their friends are also glued to their screens playing the same games. So at least they are being 20% social while playing ;-) Sitting alone in a room perfecting an obscure technique to master a 30 year old game takes a special kind of kid ;-) Last edited by eXeler0; 02 January 2024 at 15:53. |

Times change - remember getting the rage when a game crashed!
Seriously though, I cannot do these so called techniques - tried with Track & Field and Hyper Sports - I am just a button smasher, but seen some clips with some peeps on YouTube having great techniques (like this vid) Maybe just too old to learn new stuff lol - I mean look at the ages of some of these players! |

Having almost ruined my education that way: Hell No. Not that I have kids, I can only watch what my brother does with his kids. They restrict iPad time to specific hours of the day, so it's a good start.

When I was young ? I basically spent my college days playing SNES and MD games on the college PCs.

Just get a spoon (or knife or something, but I always found a spoon worked best) and place it in your hand such that when you tap down it hits one button and then it automatically hits the other button on the release... Seemed much more consistent than trying to use both hands in sync to me.. At least it helped my Track & Field scores... Tho, I'd never be able to do that hypertapping thing for NES Tetris consistantly. |

I used a kinder egg surprise shell where I put my index and major fingers to play track and fields.

Sounds like a good use of adolescence to me.
Still, I wonder if Alexey Pajitnov has confirmed whether the crashing at that point was intentional, or something he was aware of, or whether its in all versions including the original, and indeed the two Amiga ones? I never had any idea that you couldn't just play on forever. |

Since the invention of modern social media, someone has beaten Tetris I would say. There is just no evidence of it being beaten before it.

Seems like good old CRT monitors are still king in the retro gaming world, and deservedly so. I really enjoyed watching that and it reminded me of one of my favourite Amiga games of all time - Crazy Columns. Now, if you liked that video, you can't not like Crazy Columns - it even has its own website with player hi-scores to beat!

I assume those are younger kidz. We did the same, but did not last very long. My son's friends are only socializing through games. Not allowing him to play would just made him not have many friends, outside of sport team. (rowing) |
