problem (eyeofbeholder)
going back to level one and then attempting to re-descend to level two results in an unexpected end to your game. screen will go black. should you not make a habit of going to previously explored levels? was this problem experienced by others on a real A500?

just checked with 1.6.1 and the game basically went grey and into a process of resetting itself! i'm not ruling out a problem with the ipfs.

that was usual on a real Amiga, when using more than one copy of disk 2 to me (i did that to multiply the save slots, since there were only one at all, stored in that disk)
don't know if it applies here though. another things that may happen is that unlocked doors on level 4 - 5 close again. May be a memory size problem? |

Ok last question: did you use 3 drives with all the IPFs inserted or did you swapped them?
Could it be some curious boot in disk 2, so that it was removed in the cracked disks? I remember the copies i used on my real amiga 20 years ago had installed standard boot sectors, but they worked. |

i only used 2 emulated drives for disk 1 & 2 respectively. i think this may be of interest, descending from 1st level to 2nd level i am originally prompted for a word. the problem is encoutered when, after returing back to level 1, attempting to re-descend to level 2, the same point i was just previously prompted for a word. perhaps there is some confusion brought on due to the copy protection routine?
out of curiousity, i started the game over and created an entirely different party. guess what, same thing happens... screen goes black just as it did before. Last edited by TCD; 16 December 2010 at 19:24. Reason: Back to back posts merged. Use the edit function. |

yes the copy protection routine is between level 1 and 2, then again around the dwarven level, i don't remember if it is also past that.
i don't think it is the case though as you get back at that intersection coming from lower levels, having already passed it. moreover, why should the IPFs be defective in that regard? if they were the game would be not playable also on the real thing, while the only problem i remember about that was when you tryied to have more than a copy of disk 2. It's possible, but since it happened also with cracked disks, it would be strange that the issue would be a different one. But i would like to know if the problem is still there if you use at least 3 emulated drives, with the 3 disks inserted and you don't swap them. if it does, on a vanilla A500 setup of Winuae (ECS, no quick drives, cycle exact etc.) then i'm sorry but i have no more ideas |
