Cdrom Drive In 4000T

I have a Scsi cdrom drive installed at the moment, and I want to change this to IDE instead.

Am I looking for any 44 pin cdrom drive for use with my 4000T ?

Nope.

Any common-as-mud IDE 40 pins will be OK. Even CD-RW and DVD(-RW) will be fine. Just use IDEfix97 to recognize it.

If you are using OS3.9, then you already have the package installed.

Ough of curiosity: why in heaven you want to change a faster, CPU-free SCSI CD unit for a dependent, CPU-intensive, slow-as-hell (due the ancient Amiga IDE port) unit?

Well i want to have a little dabble with OS 4.0,and in the instructions for installing,it says that IDE is only recognized whilst installing ?

Could you confirm for me that the 40 pin header is at the front right hand side of the board ?

hmmm........I have just re-read the installing procedure for Os4,and it says it does accept Scsi, but only via the Cyberstorm.

So i suppose i should connect my cdrom to that and forget about about IDE ?

Only problem is that the Cyberstorm scsi is 68 pin and i think my cdrom is 50 pin.....

I suppose you can probably get some type of 50 > 68 pin adapter ?

Right, a passive 68 to 50 pin adaptor and you are set.

Just check for the square solder point, it is pin 1.

Wrong, you need female-to-female adaptor. The CD unit have male socket, and so the 68pin cable.

Also check if the drive have the resistor packs. If it have, take it out and use an active terminator (SCSI2 don't like passive terminators).

Finally, check the CD SCSI ID, who cannot duplicate any other SCSI device in the chain. The controller usually is ID7, the first HD usually is ID0.

I was going to buy the adaptor to fit onto the ppc scsi, and use a 50pin cable from there to my crdrom and hardrive ?

Is your HD 50 pin? If so, there's OK.

If not, better use a female to female adaptor only on the CD unit.
