Settlers black screen. - Page 2

Apologies. Emulation of A1200 using FS-UAE. 2mb chip and 8mb fast ram.

Not sure of version of Settlers. I think its cracked. It works fine when loading from floppy.

Try the pre-installed version (1.5) from here and maybe update the WHDLoad version to 18.1 if the problem persists.

And you need Cycle Exact enabled for this game.

Tested on WinUAE A1200/030 OS3.1 128mb fast. (Don't ask me about FS-UAE, I don't use it)

WHDLoad v1.5 is outdated, v1.6 is the latest slave. Stingray created the new install from scratch.

I am trying v1.6 because it fixes some issues.

Updated to Whdload 18.1 too.

Just tried v1.5 preinstalled from whdownload and I have the same problem!

So I guess its not my disks/ADFs.

Make sure Custom=1 (skip intro) is not set, as this can cause a black screen.

Can you set CE (Cycle Exact) in FS-UAE?

Well, as i said. v1.5 is very old and buggy. Try the preinstalled v1.6.

Default is Cycle exact, unless you change it.

Strange why you get a black screen in FS-UAE. I tried (the buggy) v1.5 version and it boots into the game. I assume you don't use the OAGD.net online game database (with a created account) which scans and import the correct configs for every supported game?

Also did not know about the final installs folder on grandis. Will bookmark that, thanks.

Just tried it in WinUAE+ClassicWB Lite, v1.6 slave, WHDLoad 18.1+17.2. No problems here.

@NeoBible: I hope you've upgraded to v1.6 then. You can't save properly in v1.5. Keyboard won't work.

Ok so, a few years down the line I try to load up The Settlers again and I'm having the black screen problems again!

Looking at my old post above, I changed the Cycle Exact setting. Thing is, I have no idea where that is in FS-UAE! I can't remember now.

Can anyone help?

It's in the Launcher setting were you set your Amiga model and it's called "Accuracy". Setting "High" = cycle exact.

Thanks. That was already set to High.

After some investigation I managed to get it running. Now the problem from what I can see is that the intro animation is black screen. If I set CUSTOM=1 in WHDLoad to skip it, I can successfully go to the title screen.

When I enter the code in the copy protection screen, the text font goes to funny colour. I have to Right Click to progress to main menu. Looks like I can play the game fine from here.

But is there a particular reason I cannot watch the intro?

Not really. Normal A1200 with 8 MB fastram works fine with WHDLoad slave 1.6. No problems with the intro. Maybe it's time to update FS-UAE.
