Don't forget to get the patch/upgrade to the final beta version! The author of the Amiga port did some fixes/optimizations after the CUAmiga coverdisc version of the beta was released.
You can grab them at his website which is STILL up almost 10 years later! http://www.geocities.com/~charlie_x/ |

Viddi,

The first file is the main TFX archive. This contains the files from the CU Amiga cover CD. The second file contains replacement executable files which are supposed to fix bugs in the 020 and 030 versions of the game. I say supposed because both files crash when I try to use them on WinUAE. The last file seems to be the update for the 040 version of TFX. I'm not sure why this file is called tfx.strip though.
Anyone managed to get the updates to work on WinUAE? |

I said 'crash' above but actually its an ugly graphic corruption I receive. This is what the newer 020 beta version looks like on WinUAE for me. The original TFX 020 executable runs fine with no graphic problems.

I just tried the FPU version from the original archive. As you can see it works perfectly fine (albeit one or two in-game bugs) using the exact same configuration. I have no idea why these newer executables don't work.

the original archive with the fpu version works to me too but 040 version doesn't work.I have copied updates to the game but they don't replace any file... is it necessary to delete any file?

I've heard many people say the 68040 version doesn't work. Maybe it only works with certain accelerator cards? I'm not really sure.
On WinUAE the FPU verson works the best. Its fairly stable and is quite fast as well. I have now spent most of the afternoon creating a brand new HDF version of TFX for KillerGorilla to put on his webpage. Its a 12MB HDF and is fully bootable, runs the FPU version of TFX and has all the graphics options turned up so it looks kick ass! If you find that it runs a bit too slow on your machine you can always turn off some of the graphics options like texture mapping and goraud shading by entering the config menu. Just press the ` key which is in the top left corner of a QWERTY keyboard (next to the 1) while the game is running. Also note the HDF contains the three patches in a seperate directory called (funnily enough) Patches. I wrote a ReadMe file which explains how to use the different TFX executables. You'll find that in the Patches directory. I still can't get any of the patches to work though. Feel free to give the patches a try. Read the text though which gives a bit more info. Basically the game always boots from a file called TFX. So replace TFX in the main directory with TFX.020 or TFX.030 etc. renamed to TFX. Don't forget to enable FPU hardware in your WinUAE config! I've found that enabling JIT and turning OFF sound emulation also help a lot. Enjoy! |
