This is so bloody amazing, go Amiga!

Just saw this on youtube, this guy is wikid and it is so cool the sounds he is getting from the Amiga. Maddness, all done just in 512kb and an A500 and A1200. Makes my productions sound like shite lol.

This is just too good, I hope I can see this guy live as his work is just stunning! Great to see the Amiga used in such an awesome way in 2010!

but he uses a Pioneer DJM800 mixer which has tons of cool digital onboard SFX, (I used that mixer myself, so I know what I am talking about) and he seems to use them extensively, so it is not 100% correct saying the Amiga does all the work, he does tweak the sound quite a lot using loads of DSP effects with the DJM800 (hence turning and pushing knobs all the time - esp the blue ones). The orange one is used to trigger gate and sampling effects.

So the quote next to the video " No additional sound hardware is used... " is not true I am afraid

of course he uses additional hardware (almost mandatory in such setups), but imagine: no ableton, protools or any other sequencer used but his amiga's as primary soundsource.

i agree with dirkies - "no additional audio source is used" would be more accurate.

Still, very cool end result. I guess he is running drums/bass clean out of one side, and samples which require effects out of the other. I would love to hear the original source mod files to hear exactly what is going on

Nice one for sure. Just the question how much the mixer adds to it, makes it a tad less amazing

But on the other hand, when considering he sequenced everything in sound/protracker, his 'live' set would be much less energetic if he just would hit the 'play' button with a mouseclick and then stand back

no one is questioning his sequencing/tracking ability... it's just that to say its "all amiga" is something of a half-truth - on the website it says "two amigas and a mixer" - what isnt mentioned is that the mixer is pretty high-end and has a massive effect (pun intended) on the final sound!

suffice to say, i'm thinking of having a pop at seeing what i can do with an A600 and a Kaoss Pad 2 now....

^ What Horace said.
I'm quite sure that the sound wouldn't be anything like that without the mixer. It doesn't mean that I don't like the idea or that the used mods sound lame without the additional effects, but I really would like to have a listen to the original Amiga material

Just had a listen to the mods and to be fair to the guy, the mods sound pretty damn good on their own, the mixer adds a bit but not enough to make the statement on his website inaccurate.

they sound good, but very different to the live performance. The website statement is "technically" correct, but misleading.

Those filter sweeps and delays etc make a massive difference to the overall result.

I'm not saying i dont like it though.
