Unhappy WinUAE doesn't work under Vista

Hi, I'd like to run WinUAE 1.6.1 under Vista 32 bit.
When I run WinUAE I hear the sound of a new device installed beeping and the WinUAE window flashing every five seconds. I can also see a new HID (human interface device) with the yellow exclamation mark in my system.
When I start the emulation it crashes.
I tried to run winuae with the -norawinput flag without changes.
The log file is attached.
Please help me .... and sorry for my English.

WinUAE is not a driver. It's not supposed to appear anywhere in Windows Hardware devices and conf. panel. Are you implying you had it working under XP ?

You have some weird input device or driver that reports multiple insert events when winuae tries to enumerate input devices.

-norawinput command line parameter may help.

I know winuae's not a driver but when I run it, it seems to try installing some device.
-norawinput doesn't help.

USB ID 15C2:0038 seems to be some kind of small display used in for example HTPC cases. I guess it also includes some buttons because it appears as an input device.

Could you attach winuaebootlog.txt using latest 2.0 beta? (2.0b18)

You're right: it's a HTPC case!!!
I didn't try the beta version yet: I'm going to download it.

Similar problems with the 2.0b18 beta (Vista asked me to restart for the changes to hardware configuration have effect! ) ; now it doesn't crash when I start an adf but it's unusable since it has one or two second freezes every time the sound of a new device beeps.
Here is the log file.

As a workaround (if you don't need the display), disable the device in device manager.

For some unknown reason it reports as being inserted and removed continuously..

I guess original reason is incompatible driver.

EDIT:

http://www.silverstonetek.com/downlo...MON-Device.pdf

It is compatibility problem with the device and directinput.

Hi, I hope I this doesn't come off arrogant but Winuae 1.6.1 works just fine with Vista 64. I even have a fully (emulated A3000) when combined with Cloanto's Amiga forever suite.

Frankly?
Such junk would go into my garbage can next day if I had to manually disable a device so that D3D-/DI-compliant software (WinUAE too!!) works without problems! (let alone the UAC requests each time)
Not only is that a major design / conception error but also a good reason for getting your money back!

They're employing the wrong people IMO.

Some devices (audio, input ?) are not properly installed apparently. All devices listed in your Hardware & Devices panel must report to be working properly before playing with an emulator. You could disable the Realtek audio chipset in your BIOS and see it that helps.

I remember some old viruses that used to install fake hardware devices, so make sure your computer is not infected (if Norton was bundled with your HTPC, uninstall it and get avast (free) instead which will scan your files right after being installed).

Did you even read what I said in previous post? It is issue with USB display device that comes with OP's HTPC case.

Nothing to do with Vista or viruses or whatever.

It seemed to me some devices (HID...) were getting installed behind his back after reboot, and since it can't be attributed to WinUAE...
What would be that "USB display device" in your opinion ? Have no clue about that sorry.

Could be interesting to be given a link to his HTPC product info. sheet, me thinks.

Let me have a wild guess : That display with buttons which most (if not all) HTPCs have at the front?

Before I forget, it seems the default config cannot be loaded as is by WinUAE, may be bobgeldof should delete it (default.uae).

That's because he doesn't have one. Rename yours and you get the same message. Is there really a need for more guesses when there's a really plausible answer already?

Ok, I disabled the HID with ID 15c2:0038 and WinUAE works fine now.
The HTPC LCD display it's off.
I'd like to update the driver (since it's standard microsoft) but I can't find it (downloaded the soundgraph imon/imedianhd last version but nothing changes about drivers).
The HTPC case is this one:

Is the gfx card inside your HTPC a Radeon ?
Here's the incompatibility Tom's Hardware found when switching from a display to another :

To get around this, we disabled AMD's Hotkey Poller with Window's msconfig.
and do smth about that missing default.uae config. !
