dms txt files of Crack Groups and BBS

Hello,

I would like to save the text log that appears when I undms my Amiga Warez files in order to create a collection of this Ascii memories.

How can I do to grab just these texts?

Many Thanks

You can try to redirect the DMS output to a textfile like:

dms write warez.dms to df0: >ram:dms.txt

No idea if that works though, I've been using DMS the last time back in 1993 or so =)

Dear StingRay I tried in different ways what you told to me but nothing to do and I have downloaded from Aminet DLDiz v1.7 that it says that extract the File_ID.Diz files but actually I don't know if the dms text of the bbs or crack groups are File_ID.Diz

A bit more info would be incredibly useful... What exactly happens?

These added DMS adverts are no FILE_ID's. They are a totally different thing, added with tools such as DMS Mapus (or smth. similar, can't remember anymore).

I've only seen a few of these discs and that was years ago.

I thought that the adverts were just text files stored on the disc either in the startup-sequence as text that would show on screen as the disc booted or in seperate files that would be executed and then display the text on screen.

Sure ....

I tried to use > ram:dms.txt or to ram:dms.txt but nothing is stored in ram: so actually don't know what to do.
Only one thing is sure that in the DMS command I see the option TEXT only to do DMS READ from df0: and not to do DMS WRITE to DF0:

Cheers

Dear Dave we are talking about text add file of BBS or Crack group files that modem users of the past well know . These texts are showed when you try to write an dms file downloaded from a BBS to DF0: ...
it's something magic and nice to see that could be experienced today too you just need to look for Bondox files for example and enjoy!

You've got me wondering now I'll have a look at one tonight so that I can see what you're on about.

dannypet: Use xDMS, it can extract banner ads via output redirection and works on pretty much any OS, for convenience an Amiga binary is included with the (cross-platform) source.

I just tried it and it works without problems for me. The only problem is that you don't see that you have to press return. So first you could do it without redirected output to see how many times you have to press return.

dms write ram:test.dms to df0: >ram:dms.txt works fine!

Dear StingRay the problem is that with your command instead of the ASCII add it stores into ram: this dms.txt file:

it is ansi

Simply save it and view it with an ansi viewer and it'll look ok

oh that is just the different coloured/type font that DMS uses (bold/italic etc)..

The header is not there!

Please use a CORRECT command line! You just got an error from DMS telling you that your commandline was invalid. Please try it first WITHOUT redirected output! If DMS can't understand your parameters it's not really surprising that you don't see any BBS advert.

The thing is, these ads are not compressed, they are simply tagged onto the dms file. Look at the end of the dms file in a hex viewer!

Why so complicated? If he would just use DMS correctly his problem would have been solved already.

it's not complicated I think XDMS on pc supports them, so a quick batch file

In fact a quick Dopus or Amigados script and the use of a rad drive would be simple too

Sure, not for me and not for you either. But apprently he doesn't know how to use dms correctly ("write:bla.dms" is not the same as "write bla.dms"...) so I doubt he would be able to create a working script
