ILBM files - different versions?

I'm in the process of writing an IFF/ILBM viewer in Java, which will hopefully become an Anim viewer later. I've got references for the ILBM file format but they are from 1985-86. They only cover uncompressed and RLE compressed images.

Are there any other versions or variations of the ILBM format used by later paint programs? Perhaps different encoding schemes or changes to facilitate later features such as the AGA chipset? In the end I want my program to be able to read 'most' ILBM image files .

There is a 24-bit IFF-ILBM format, which Paintshop Pro uses. I think PPaint used it too. I haven't got any documentation on it, though.
