February Quiz - Answers & Score So, this is the last year I'm doing the monthly videogame quiz. That means you have just witnessed the very last February round! With over 150 players we also set a participation record. Was it the theme, or was it maybe easier than usual? Anyway, I'm happy and hope the remaining nine quizzes will be just as numerous! Before we get started, here's a quick look at the vote: "how was your 2023 so far?" That doesn't look too bad! More than half of you are doing well or very well, and a third say "average". That leaves about 13% who unfortunately didn't have a good start to the new year... I wish them a quick turnaround. But now it's time for some answers... first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score table. 1) Grand Theft Auto 3 The protagonists of Shen Mue and GTA 3 both have dark hair, wear a brown leather jacket, blue jeans and white shoes. https://imgur.com/a/ucTMBbL Also, both titles are open world games played from a 3rd person perspective. Basically the same game! ^_^ Solution rate: 89% Other suggestions: 10x Shenmue, Manhunt, flashback, Yakuza, Silent Hill 2) Assassins Creed The white hoodie, the haystack - clearly must be a assassin in Jerusalem! Solution rate: 96% Other suggestions: The Witcher 3) Sonic Frontiers Solution rate: 77% Other suggestions: Far Cry, Halo, Final Fantasy XV, Bioshock Infinite, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Xenoblade Chronicles 4) Elden Ring Solution rate: 82% Other suggestions: Demons Souls, shadow of the collosus, Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls, Nier Automata, skyrim 5) Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom Hey, everyone recognised Zelda! And how many actually recognised Tears of the Kingdom? That was only 34% of you. Solution rate: 100% Other suggestions: - 6) Marvel's Spider-Man Solution rate: 79% Other suggestions: Cyberpunk 2077, Deus ex, Portal, Raid Shadow Legends, Alpha Protocol, Crackdown 7) Pokemon Legends Arceus Solution rate: 85% Other suggestions: Dragon Quest, Genshin Impact, ni no kuni, Xenoblade Chronicles 8.) Saints Row the 3rd Solution rate: 70% Other suggestions: Destroy All Humans, GTA Online, Yakuza 9) Ghost of Tsushima Solution rate: 72% Other suggestions: Way of the Samurai, Nioh, Rise of the Ronin, Sekiro 10) Genshin Impact The clue about "stolen from Breath of the Wild", made a lot of you think of Immortal phoenix rising. Solution rate: 68% Other suggestions: 16x Immortal phoenix rising, Ni no kuni, Xenoblade Chronicles, Dragon Quest XI, Final fantasy, Kid Icarus, Breath of the wild 11) Fallout 2 Solving rate: 60% Other suggestions: Baldur's Gate, Diablo 2, Dungeons and Dragons, Planescape Torment, Time Commando, Ultima, Wasteland 12) Far Cry 3 "What? Crap, #15 was S.T.A.L.K.E.R Well. No complaining from me then. I just don't recognize that scene at all. But truth be told I played Call of Pripyat the least of the three, it just doesn't have the oomph that the first two games have and the voice acting is just... painful.
Yeah Zelda. At first I thought it was Skyward Sword, but I figured it would be Breath of the Wild since that is more open worldy. Didn't even consider the follow up. They all blend together man! Pokemon Legends I was proud that I found it. It looks like literally dozens of other games out there, but it had that Nintendo Switch shine to it. So I just randomly thought to myself: is it a Pokemon game? Turns out: yes it was. #6 and 9 are just brutal. Screenshots of skill trees. Do you know how many skill trees there are? Dozens. Hundreds. I think I found #9 by searching specifically for "samurai skilltree" and #6 through "acrobatics skilltree". I thought it had something to do with Batman at first since it looks kind of like Arkham Knights. Wrong franchise, wrong publisher. Sonic Frontiers was another wild guess that turned out to be correct. Weird rollercoaster type thingies in the sky. I figured it would be a 3D Sonic game. And Frontiers had some purple looking tracks on the screenshots so I just ran with it Besides, in the very bottom left it did look like Sonic was slightly in frame. #2 was harder for me than it should have been. I kid you not, on the monitor I had at work it was all bloom. When I looked at it on my home computer it was so obvious that it was AssCreed #19 I was just completely off the mark, I thought it was a Star Wars game Force lightning and all. I figured it was KOTOR since the force lightning looked very similar in screenshots. #16 had me for a loop a long time, in fact I only figured it out when I was inputting the guesses. It looked so Dark Soulsy but I didn't recognize it from any of the Soulsborne games. But then I was looking closer at the ground in the screenshot combined with the fact that it looks to be raining and with the general bleak color palette, that made me think of Death Stranding. A game I have played for many hours but did not get far enough to see that creature. |

I have to admit, I never played one of them. This "guy with the mutated gas mask" looked like a standard enemy (I believe it's called a Snork), so I thought anyone who played this would know.

And while Number 9 isn't as iconic, how many "open world Samurai games" are there? Answer rate was 72%, so I would say it was alright for the second row... after all, you found them too. Quote:

By the way, where is Junior? Were his grades not good enough so he isn't allowed to play anymore, or did you decide to join forces? Quote:

It is a snork indeed. The thing is that they are fast buggers that stay very low to the ground and essentially when they get close to you, you are in deep trouble because they do tons of damage, attack fast and cause you to start bleeding. I tend to always carry a shotgun and grenades with me specifically for these bastards so I can one-shot them I hardly ever saw them that up close.

March Quiz - Point & Click Adventures Where last round you had to deal with many modern multiplatform titles, we now plunge into the golden age of classic graphic adventures. That means we're going deep into the 90s, but with less of a focus on console games. Grab your mouse and get ready to POINT & CLICK! It was a bit strange to put this round together, as so many classics had already been used in all the other quizzes. So no Maniac Mansion, no Loom, no Full Throttle or Grim Fandango... but there are still many big names left for this month, and of course some obscure ones too. Deadline is Friday the 31st of March, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here's the quiz, have fun! Direct link: https://i.imgur.com/EMyT9gn.png |

for a second there I read math quiz. You had me scared for a second.
I resent #5. That's not the correct one. #1, okay. But #5 is unforgivable. |
