CD0:Unreadable - can't get CD drive support working

Running WinUAE 4.3.0.

I've ticked "uaescsi.device", added "IDE (Auto), 0" drive under the "CD & Hard Drives" tab, and ticked "CDFS automount CD/DVD drives".

In both my new OS3.1.4 install and my existing OS3.9 install, I get a "CD0:Unreadable" icon when I select any of my .mds Amiga CD images in the WinUAE GUI (like any of the Amiga Format cover discs, aminet CDs, etc, nothing out of the ordinary).

What am I doing wrong, please? If I understand correctly, nothing needs installing on the Amiga-side anymore with the latest WinUAE?

Thanks! :-)

Only tick CDFS automount. The rest is automatic. Do not add any CD controllers.

Thanks for the reply, Toni.

Following your instructions, I still get CD0:Unreadable when mounting an image using the WinUAE GUI (Optical Media Options > Select Image File).

However, I then installed Daemon Tools Lite, and can now successfully use my Amiga CD images with WinUAE.

Should I be able to do it without Daemon Tools Lite? Does WinUAE support .mds files natively?

If it is v2 (or newer) MDS, it won't work because at least when I added mds support, reverse-engineered v2 information didn't exist.

Check the log.

I've just now noticed that none of my CD32 game .MDS images work with WinUAE 4.3.0 when using the CD32 quickstart config. The CD32 boot animation finishes and nothing loads when a .MDS image is mounted, or if a .MDS is mounted on bootup it just goes to the boot animation and then waits indefinitely on the spinning disc.

They used to work fine, but it's easily a year since I last tried them. Would also explain why they're not mounting for Workbench as above. Later today I'll try going back to older versions to see when they last worked.

Toni, after some further investigation:

WinUAE 4.0.1 and previous - Can read my .MDS files perfectly
WinUAE 4.1.0 and later - Can't recognise them at all.

What change could have caused this?

The only thing related to CD images in the change log is under bug fixes:
"Some CHD CD images didn’t mount correctly." Could this possibly have broken MDS support?

Many thanks.

It was unrelated change and ID string check was probably always wrong. Fixed.
