KryoFlux Track Data Visualisation

Over the last few months, aside from the work on writing support for KryoFlux, we have been working on providing more insight into disk data by means of data visualisation, since this is often helpful in identifying the cause of errors and provides useful information about the disk encoding.

Since this is a feature of the GUI, which runs on the Java Virtual Machine, this involved first porting the stream file decoding from the original C++ source to Scala, and then plotting that data using a specialised plotting component we developed.

Since we’re nearly finished with it, with just a few more bugs to hunt down, and some testing required on a wider variety of disks. We thought now would be nice to give people a run down of the new features.

You can read more about it here, which has lots of nice screenshots!

This is a very nice feature!
It is very interesting to see a graphical representation of the copy protection sector containing fuzzy bits in Dungeon Master.
For those interested in the DM copy protection, you can check these two pages on my web site:
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/1429
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/210

The first page is only about the Atari ST versions, but I believe the Amiga versions of the game uses the same copy protection sector. It describes the fuzzy bits sector in detail.
It also shows that each copy of the game is unique with some sort of serial number written in the same sector containing the fuzzy bits.

Have you also noticed these unique serial numbers in the various dumps of Dungeon Master for Amiga (and its sequel Chaos Strikes Back) that you collected?
How can you manage this 'feature' in IPF images? Will the IPF contain only the value found on the disk that was imaged and used to build the IPF file?
And when will we see Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back released as IPF images, both for Amiga & Atari ST?

Sorry if I'm a bit out of topic...

Since ordering my KryoFlux equipment last week I've become much more interested in this kind of information.

When it's finished, these features will be more useful to me than the ability to write as well as read disks.

1, It uses the exact same protection on all platforms, there is no need to change something that is perfect
2, The encoding required will be scripted as is.
3, Yes; since it's a snapshot of something. You are free to create a serial number utility if you want to though...
4, Right now finishing some KryoFlux features has a much higher priority than other work. Dungeon Master, Chaos Strikes Back and Oids will eventually be available as IPF.
