How to mount A570?
What I need to do to read CDs on A570 under WB2.04? I did one CD for test (ISO 9660) but I can not see any icon on the WB desktop. Even I try to open AudioCD - I can do only on boot time as CDTV audio player

You shouldn't need to do anything - it just works.

More questions then:
- It should be an icon on the WB desktop or something? - How can I check if WB recognize A570? - Do I need to boot Amiga under KS1.3 or KS3.1? Thanks |

The A570 is designed to work with A500/KS1.3 or A500+/KS2.04, I don't know if it works with any other version.
What disk are you trying to use? Is it home-made? Is it a PC-format disk? |

I try to use home-made ISO 9660 CD 700MB (made on PC), but right now I can not boot Amiga at CDTV mode anymore
Also looks like I have power input issue on A500. Sometimes to boot Amiga I need to move power plug from PSU |

Do you have the red grounding clips installed? If not, it may have grounding issues.

I thought that the A570 ROM could only read discs burned with the RockRidge File System with Amiga extensions?

No I mean a CD format called Rock Ridge with Extensions for the Amiga (for the protection bits).
It was the Unix & Amiga alternative to Joliet. Thinking about it I seem to remember that PC discs *sometimes* worked but you only got the 8.3 file names |

i guess you should see an icon, if you insert a cd. if the system cant read the cd itself, you should get some kind of "NDOS" or the like (not sure here).
Rock-Ridge is an extension to the iso9660 standard. with some special additions for amigados. did you installed a cd-filesystem on your workbench 2.x ? i've looked onto the disks, but cant find anything related. you could try this: http://aminet.net/package/disk/cdrom/AmiCDROM-1.15 not tested, but give it a try. Edit: I had a look at aminet and cant find anything about "joliet" support (one for morphos exists). after all those years, still no support ? Last edited by hit; 19 December 2008 at 14:01. |

So why I can not to see any icon on WB? I did on PC disk ISO 9660 so I have 8+3 filenames. For example I boot A570 into CDTV mode and put an AudioCD - I can play it from CDTV menu, but this same disk doesn't show up on WB desktop as CD0: or NDOS disk. Do I need to put something as CD handler into DEVS folder?

stingray: ah, commercial version, thats possible.
Alexh: no realy clue, just though another version might help somehow. i found this: Volume "switch" on: CDTV startscreen, drive cd0: will be displayed on wb Volume "switch" off: standard kickstart-screen, no boot from cdrom, cd0: is not accessible from wb and there might be a limit of 650 mb for the drive. was the audio cd a burned one, also 700 mb, or an original? maybe give it a try with a 650MB disk. older drives had problems with cd-rw disks too. is there a mountlist entry for cd0: or a device entry in devs or storage folder?, maybe you can post its content here. Edit: do you boot the a500 from a floppy, or an attached harddrive? i only see "if it founds bootable floppy or cdrom" but not mentioned harddrives. links: http://www.lysator.liu.se/amiga/hard.../A570FAQ.guide http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/a570 (has an a570 tool disk) Last edited by hit; 19 December 2008 at 16:18. |

there is a "DosDriver" folder in Devs: which can include some device definitions ( i guess wb 2.x and above only). wb 1.x ( as far as i remember) should have devs:mountlist.
but as alexh said, there will be no such entries, if the a570 gets automaticly integrated into the system (no additionaly drivers needed). you could try for example artm, to check, which devices are known to the system ( http://aminet.net/package/util/moni/ARTM2_04 ). check "Devices, Mounts, Assigns". |

It is automagic, there are no dosdrivers or anything, it ties itself in to the system and enhances the system rom, it can read Amiga/PC 8.3/Mac HFS/Rockridge/Joliet/ISO9600/9660/Karaoke/Multisession et al - in fact just about anything that was available at the time (early 90s) but you need to use CrossDOS for foreign filesystyems. It is an excellent CD audio player, very punchy sound, good quality.
The icon for the drive only appears on WB when there is a disk mounted. There is a utility for playing audio CDs from Workbench, but it's quite crap. It responds to "Diskchange CD0:" when things cock up. The system thinks it's a huge read-only floppy disk, mounted via a modified A590 HD controller. The disable switch (volume control) is there for compatibility and to save RAM when it is not needed to be in use. It does need quite a bit of RAM to mount it. Oh, ed: it can hold 2MB of FastRAM as well. It effectively turns your A500/500+ into a CDTV, with all the trimmings, i.e. floppy drive, keyboard, mouse, etc., already available. (It's not quite perfect as a CDTV replacement, but then a CDTV can't do what an A500+ is capable of either.) Last edited by meega; 19 December 2008 at 18:28. |
