Need a few recommendations

Hi!

Since I'm getting back in the Amiga world with my newly acquired A1200 after having been off the wagon for the past 25 years or so, I need a few pointers or suggestions on some software to use.

The A1200 is a stock model which will soon to be equipped with an Amigakit network adapter and CF IDE. More updates will follow.

Here's what I need:

Internet:

FTP client
IRC client
TELNET client

Programming:

Assembler
C

Disk utilities:

Something to convert ADF back to floppy

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Replacing the floppy drive with a gotek drive is an idea. Play all your adfs via usb stick.

There are many other options with a1200 but I'll leave that guys who own a1200. I just have an a500.

As Telnet client, DCTelnet 1.6 http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/DCTelnet_16

I wish I could contact the author to include it on AKReal, but no way...

I have a gotek but I can't seem to make it work. The menu loads and display my ADF but it doesn't do anything when I select one and hit enter, the display shows H - C and nothing happen.

Thanks! I'll try it when I'm up and running.

All the right files placed on the usb stick?

Tried another usb stick? I'm using a 8gb sandisk usb. I have two of them and they work.

to chime in:

IRC client -> AmIRC
Telnet -> NComm + Telser.device

Assembler -> ASMone or vasm
C -> SAS/C or vbcc

For all those you will at least need a Fastram expansion for your A1200.

The stick came with it.

I'll try another one today.

Thanks!

The fun thing about returning after all this time is that everything is new and fun to discover again!

Now if only Amigakit could hurry up a bit and ship me my stuff...

I still use it at home. Great way to access my files from work and to transfer the occasional file at home. FileZilla is easy to setup.

Careful with Filezilla (Windows version at least). Someone installed it at work and the SourceForge installer included malware!

It resulted in a black desktop with no start menu. We managed to manually uninstall the addons that were added to IE.

The version I use is problem free. I've been using it for the past three years.

In any case, I'm presently migrating my PCs to Linux. I'm a bit tired of windows having to support it at work for the past 20 years. The only reason I still have it was for games, which I don't do on PC anymore preferring the classic consoles and the 8 & 16 bit computers now.

FTPMount is also quite useful - it mounts FTP sites as drawers in a special FTP: volume so you can transfer to and from the server simply using Workbench.

Edit: And RC-FTPd is a good FTP server for the Amiga should you want to connect to it from another machine.

Great, I'll look into those.
