Were there any great Amiga hacks (ie remakes using new gfx)
For example did anyone take Shadow Fighter/Fightin' Spirit and replace the graphics with Street Fighter 2 style graphics for example. Or did anyone hack the Lotus II game and replace the graphics with some Outrun style graphics?
It kinda irks me that both many conversions were pretty poor and yet there were some amazingly good game engines that with a change of graphics would have been a more professional compromise. I think any slightly taxing arcade game usually got a really bad conversion on the Amiga. Look at Gauntlet II FFS, it looks about the same as a Sega 8-bit. And to add insult to injury we didn't even get an ST port of the original game (who's only problem was scratchy samples and lack of fast scrolling, both of which any US Gold monkey brain coder could have avoided in hardware) |

Boo Boo and viddi made a 'hack' of Super Street Fighter II : http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=41499
Look at post #9 for the cleaned up graphics Would be really interesting if there were any similar projects. |

Does our very own old fart stingray's lotus game count as a hack ?? I guess not, but it's a very cool remake anyways, was it 96k ??
But surely the aga version of EOB I+II, with LOL style map's would coun't as a hack and it just made those 2 games, so much better, not so much the converted graphics, but the fact that we now have a map, thats just an awesome little change to a couple of superb games |

Theres loads of these crazzy hacks on consoles.
Ive been learning a Little Bit about Editing Raw graphics and editing Map data -This started with SSF2 Using Exl`s SuperFrog editor - changed Sprites and tiles of SuperFrog to Sonic - made little demo. Games that are NDOS and call locations seem hard - I tested editing the Sprite in Great Giana but this was too much work. Joe Maroni -has also started a Yo Joe editor. Hungry Horace`s Mega lo Mania editor you can change the graphics of the Gods maybe to your friends faces or the SNES gods - edit maps e.t.c Last edited by Retro1234; 14 July 2009 at 10:15. |

Outrun is indeed a very good example. Most 'hacks' are indeed new content only like alexh said and not imporvements to the actual engine (which is of course a lot more work). I really can't remember any improved engines for games on the Miggy.

Are any of the above mentioned hacks available anywhere as an adf download? (Obviously NOT the CD version of SSF2 though..!)
I would dearly love to try the 96k Lotus game, but every time I've downloaded it in the past it's been in Amiga file format (folders and stuff), which: A) My aged brain can't remember what to do with and... B) My Amiga emulation is done on my trusty XBOX and I don't think it will work, even if I knew what I was doing.... |

Someone recently updated Gods and released their new version for the PC. It plays exactly the same, but has more polished updated graphics and sound. I will post a link when I find it.

it's not a hack, it's a remake, so not sure that it counts.
