This pack contains 2x ROM chips: U175 & U176. It is supplied complete with Amiga A4000 printed installation instructions. You did follow the installation instructions to the letter? It's not simply a matter of unplugging the 3.0 ROMs and plugging in the 3.1 ROMs, you know. |

@prowler: I'm sure the A4000 wouldn't get to the 'Insert Disk' screen if the ROMs were installed incorrectly.
I'm wondering if something else wasn't seated correctly or was disturbed when Dr. Dude performed the upgrades. @Dr. Dude: When you say you get no icons on the screen and can't right click... Do you see the white menu bar at the top? If so, what does it say? Can you confirm there is definitely no 'RAM Disk' icon in the top left hand corner of the screen after booting the Workbench Disk? These ROMs are the A4000T ones right (version 40.70)? Are the 3.1 workbench disks for the A4000T? It may be the case of not having the workbench.library on the disk that's causing the workbench not to load. The 20 second delay before booting from floppy disk is probably the IDE port delay. I'm guessing you haven't got a HDD connected? Last edited by colmiga; 09 March 2010 at 13:15. |

Dr. Dude asked about jumper setting. I was thinking that there may have been some advice regarding this in the A4000 ROM chips installation instructions which he overlooked. This would not necessarily prevent the machine booting as far as displaying the 'Insert Disk' screen.

I'd scrap getting a Subway and a FastATA MK V and just get a Deneb.
You should be able to use an ultra cheap USB2.0->SATA adapter to get FastATA MK V type speeds. |

Hey Dr. Dude,
Did you get the correct ROMs? Your order was originally for an A4000T set. Did you get it changed successfully to an A4000D set? |

Strictly speaking, you either need the A4000D ROMs or you need the Workbench library (wb.lib) on your boot drive, because the A4000T ROMs don't have it in ROM.
As things are, with the A4000T ROMs in your machine, you need an A4000T Workbench 3.1 disk to get a copy of the Workbench library. |

You really need to get those ROMs changed for the correct ones. |

v40.70 ROMs need the Workbench library on disk otherwise you will get a blank Workbench window. This is why we originally told you you needed the Workbench 3.5 or 3.9 or Workbench 3.1 which has Workbench.library in libs: drawer.
If you are installing Workbench 3.5 - these official Amiga ROMs will be OK. All our A4000 Desktops in the office are running fine with 40.70 ROMs. |

I am interested in this, because I have an A4000/040 desktop machine with 3.0 ROMs myself, which I may wish to upgrade. |

Yes - Workbench 3.1 shipped with A4000T had Workbench library on disk (this is last 3.1 release just before Commodore closed)
The CD32 Workbench 3.1 release may also have a separate Workbench library (not sure, maybe someone can confirm) More recently Workbench 3.5 and 3.9 moved Workbench library to disk as well. |

Thanks for the reply.
Will you be stocking the A4000 desktop ROMs in future? And do the 3.1 ROM fitting instructions apply equally to both the A4000 desktop and tower systems? Thanks. |

We have hundreds of original new Amiga manufactured mask 3.1 ROMs here (40.70) so have no plans on getting 40.68 ROMs in stock.
Fitting instructions are consistent. |
