ADF Files incomplete?

I seem to be having a problem lately downloading and converting back ADF Files...
As an example - I download an ADF File from Planet Emu on my PC... unzip it to a folder... examine ADF File via ADF viewer (opens ADF as a folder) folder is empty...!?
It doesn't happen with every ADF File, but it seems to be happening a lot more frequently...

If I transfer the ADF File over to my A1200 and try to put it back to floppy via ADF Blitzer the resulting floppy just appears as NDOS on screen

I am missing something?

No, some ADFs are NDos. That's perfectly okay. You need to boot them to see if they don't work.

Well, I wasn't going completely mad... I have been testing this adf situation further...

I am able to create an adf file and save it to either partition on my CF hard drive on my A1200 - the adf file looks fine and if I look at the file information it is the correct size... then if I try to write the adf back to an Amiga floppy disk it wont work - the end result of trying to write an adf using either adfblitzer or tsgui is a NDOS disk.

The two games I was looking at and testing earlier proved to be red herrings because they were NDOS game disks as TCD pointed out but it happens with any disk image not just NDOS games...

The problem is the adf files I am creating are not saving correctly on my CF hard drive even though they look as if they are... I proved this by creating exactly the same adf files but this time saving them all to RAM - these RAM saved adf files all work correctly and write back to floppy disks fine... I wonder what is stopping my 4GB Compact Flash HD from being able to save adf files properly - as far as I know everything else works on my A1200 just fine...?
Any ideas?

It could be the maxtransfer rate that your CF card is set to. Corruption on large files is a common sign of this.

This is weird... let's resume it:
- your CF works (because you OS boots and you can use other programs)
- your floppy drive works (because you can save correct ADFs to RAM disk)
- adfblitzer and tsgui work (same reason as above)

yet your ADFs are not correctly written on your CF (but their size is correct)... Mmmm.

Is an adf considered a large file?

You can check your maxtransfer is the right size of MaxTransfer = 0x1fe00

To be honest I'm not sure but it could be worth checking as a wrong value will corrupt files

Yes, should be a MaxTransfer issue.

Let me have a look at the settings and post back - I guess I should not be messing with settings now though should I ? - I could lose all my data on both partitions of my hard drive couldn't I ?

Not if you only have a look and don't make any changes.

Check first and then if you're not sure - ask on here how to make the change

My bed was shouting me last night and I wasn't around when you posted the piccys but your MaxTransfer needs changing to the figure I suggested earlier.

Replace the figure in yours with this 0x1fe00 and then press return (the figure isn't saved unless you press return) for both partitions and then save the changes.

Don't change anything else - or you may lose your data.

Once you're out of HDToolBox do a reboot and try to do an ADF again.

It should be ok

I got around to changing the Max Transfer settings on my CF card in the hope that it might rectify the problem I am having in reading and writing ADF files... it didn't make a difference I'm afraid...

Please read the whole thread for the background on this if you are interested... if you have encountered similar problems and have found a solution then please tell me what you did....

As it stands I still cant read or write ADF files to my 4GB CF Card Hard Drive... I can read and write ADF files to RAM and also to a USB stick via my Subway... it would be nice to be able to store ADF files on my CF card and be able to write them back to floppy from the CF Card.

It is not a perfect World...
